I have a pair of the correct early recaro sport seats available.

That's a shame, I'd have been very interested if I'd known.

Yep, he was right. And that day is coming soon.
I'd buy yours and salt them away but my funds are very low at the moment...

Over recent years I've collected reference pictures of loads of '74/75 Carreras and most of them just have standard seats.
Even in the top of the range Carrera they are a rare option.
I don't think that many cars were specified with sports seats.

The seat should have a round knob which slides up and down on an escutcheon with two vertical grooves.
That part is now NLA.

This is the correct part.

Looks the same as this, apart from the screw.

Oh yeah thanks, now I've finally managed to find a rare knob, everyone pops up telling me they've got loads in the back of their shed...

PS. Those screws are just a bodge to prevent the escutcheon/knob popping off an overstuffed re-trim.

Yes you are probably right, wicked colour don't you think! They are actually Ford Recaros as far as I can make out.

If it makes you feel better I only have one round knob, the other is the later type...

My certificate of authenticity does not list any detail of the interior fabric but I’ve no reason to believe it was anything other than plain black.
But, I decided I’d like a tartan fabric. Or – as the settlers in the new colonies say – plaid.

In 1974 Porsche did list some cool fabrics as special order options.
There was blue, red & brown.

But no green. Not for the 911.
And yet you could get a green tartan in the 914.

So that’s what I’m going with.
It’s my one small act of rebellion.
About as reckless and ‘devil may care’ as I can do.

Before the purists get too upset I will say that it’s only a bit of trimming of the seat centres and it can easily enough be returned to black throughout should I subsequently change my mind.

I wanted a lairy mid-seventies tartan and the pattern used by Porsche in the 914 is just perfect.
This fabric was also used in VW Scirocco’s but that makes perfect sense when you discover that the 914’s and the very early Scirocco’s were manufactured in the same plant by Karman.
Both cars were built in Osnabruck in the years 1974 & 1975.
It appears they shared the same tartan trim.

This is a VW swatch from that era and shows the green tartan paired with lime green.

I was going to comment that the tartan is disgusting, but having seen the green one I think that will work well

This is a Porsche swatch and shows the same design fabric.
There were many different colourways of the same tartan and you can see on this swatch a clip of fabric glued to the card (bottom left) and that’s what I call ‘yellow/green’.
The fabric I wanted was the ‘green’ version (shown bottom right corner and the same as the previous VW one).
