Re: 1974 Carrera Coupe - RHD, UK car
If there is one thing that PI$$ES me off more than anything else with old 911's it's the amount of money I've spent and continue to spend re-doing $hite workmanship by so called 'experts' after they billed previous owners a small fortune for screwing up rebuilds of mechanical parts, probably more so than it was in the first place before they got their hands on it....
GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!
I feel your pain and sympathise with your wallet.

+1 from me to that! ^^^^^
Holidays are good to think things through, but this great project has a mass in itself now.
My 'slightly crunching in 2nd' 915 cost £2250 in parts alone to fix.
Have a good break from it all, the light at the end of the long tunnel will seem brighter!

Re: 1974 Carrera Coupe - RHD, UK car
The second rebuild went well, the only thing other than routine was to machine a part of the case flat due to corrosion.
That didn’t affect the gearbox action but helped ensure there were no oil leaks.
The gearbox was media blasted and everything stripped and cleaned.

Re: 1974 Carrera Coupe - RHD, UK car
Everyone of those dogs and synchro rings listed previously cost me in excess of a hundred quid, so, my ‘free’ gearbox rebuild ending up costing me rather more than I expected.
Still, I’ve got a properly built gearbox now.
The gear changes will be like a knife through… ...well, like a 915 gearbox.

Excellent pictures of the gearbox. Mine is off to MB next week. Hope it comes back looking like that.
