My one was Guards Red but also not fitted with a duck as the purchaser wanted a rear wiper.

Really? Fascinating. Just shows that there was all sorts of options at the time.

I will however be having a duck as well as the flat lid painted up.

Maybe I should find a 'flat' lid as a spare?????

I said earlier in the thread that I’d make full admission to any parts of the restoration that aren’t strictly correct for the year.
And here’s one.
I will be fitting a front spoiler.

This is a simple rubber lip that bolts to the bottom edge of the front bumper.
However, I think it pretty certain that the UK 1974 Carreras were not originally supplied as that.
The 1974 model year brochure pictures cars without a front spoiler.
And Guy tells me so.
And Guy knows.
He knows everything about 2.7 Carreras.

The car would likely have had no rubber lip spoiler installed (that was fitted the following year in ’75 along with a larger rear ‘whale’ tail).

The duck tail helps plant the rear, markedly so – no denying that - but configured without a front spoiler the front end lift is actually increased slightly (you can tell I’ve been reading my ‘Konradsheim’ book).

Porsche soon realised that and evened up the aerodynamics of the cars (in the '75 model year, largely because the rear spoiler got bigger that year and the need for a front spoiler became more urgent).
I will be following that more balanced configuration.
The ducktail + front lip spoiler combination looks good and works well.
These days most people install the front spoiler on the ’74 cars because you won’t enjoy high speed motoring with a duck on the rear and no front spoiler fitted.

I can add something here....the cars that came without front lip rubber spoiler jobbies, used the same front spoilers that included the bolt holes for the rubber lips. The holes had little plastic cap things in them to cover the holes.

Duck tape is a good start, but would be interested to know if the duck is bonded or screwed to the metal frame - purely out of interest only.

Isnt there a joke about a type of duck that flies backwards to keep the sand out of its eyes? is that the sort of thing you mean?
ps my car is orange, does that make it duck a l' orange - coincidentally also very popular in the 70s.
