That's going to work out quite well Paul. That's a 73 production duck all right but word is that a few found their way onto 74MY cars so retro fitting a 74MY frame to a 73MY duck is possibly what they might even have done at the factory for such an early chassis number as yours. Result!

Not for Paul's they didn't as it was silver and the ducktail was not fitted with metallic colours.

That's a very interesting point. I know that this was a problem in the early 73MY RS production and explains why silver was never a colour in the 73RS line up.

It must have been a problem solved by the time the martini RSR's ran at the 73 Targa Florio so why not on the 74MY RS production cars?

I know I have seen at least one Italian silver 74RS with a duck but of course this could have been added later.

So, you are saying all silver cars were still with a plain lid even in 74? it strikes me as being odd, otherwise why not do what was done the year before and just not offer metallic colours with a duck.

I'm off to read some period books. Please comment further.

Guy is quite right. Even in 1974 Porsche didn't feel able to match finish & colour using metallics on both the fibreglass and steel panels.
My car (in its original silver) would have had a flat lid and a rear wiper.
The wiper was not offered on the duck option.

Yes, and so have most folk. Everyone knows the '74 Carrera had a ducktail so now everyone tends to fit one. Even on the metallics.

Also, all German market cars were originally fitted with flat lids (all colours, not just metallics) but many of those cars now sport 'ducks'.

I'll say again a big thanks to Andy, he did great work on repairing and rebuilding my ducktail.
I'm very grateful.

Andy also 'glassed over some holes, repaired some broken tabs and generally improved the whole duck.
There's still much to be done in preparing the ducktail for paint but Andy got it very close to ready-for-use.

Quite so. My one was Guards Red but also not fitted with a duck as the purchaser wanted a rear wiper. I will however be having a duck as well as the flat lid painted up.
