My car is a very low chassis number (9114600197).
It was assembled in September 1973 so it was going down the production line early in the new model year.

One of the first things Porsche busied themselves with was pulling cars off the factory floor for the race teams to assemble into ‘IROC’ cars.
Those dozen ‘International Race of Champions’ cars were taken from amongst the first 150 cars so mine was only about another 50 cars on from that.
It would make a great base for an IROC replica.
Oh, maybe not, it's RHD...

I'm not aware of any earlier '74 model year Carrera's in RHD but it's possible.
I think there may be a UK, low chassis number car, that was converted to an RSR rep? Not known to me though.

My car started life registered as ‘JCT2’.
Apparently that was the personal number plate of Jack Tordoff.
The Carrera was first registered to his Porsche dealership JCT600 in Leeds (JCT600 being his other, rather more famous number plate).
Jack was a successful rally driver in those days and in 1973 he drove this RS - pictured here on the RAC Rally.
He won the Circuit of Ireland Rally that year.

And then he bought my 1974 Carrera because the old fashioned RS was – by then – out of date.

Well, it may be true, but it may be an exaggeration of the truth.
It’s certainly possible that the new ’74 coupe was Jack’s own daily driver but it could also be that Jack bought my Carrera as a demonstrator for his Leeds showroom.
After quizzing folk who were around in those days the research can’t determine confidently it was used by Jack.
But, the car was assembled in September 1973 and was a very early build number.
Therefore it would have been one of the very first (if not the first) ’74 model year cars to arrive in the UK.
I think it probable that it was a showroom demonstrator for the new model 911.

And anyway, for the purposes of his rallying career Jack went on and purchased a red & gold 1974 3.0RS (one of only 5 AFN/UK cars in RHD) and used that to compete again in the RAC Rally & the Circuit of Ireland.

But who knows, maybe my car did win a few international rallies with Jack at the wheel?
Or it was just used for scouting the rally routes?
Or simply used for the commute to work.
Then there’s the very real possibility that it simply sat in the warm and dry, got polished a lot and was admired through the floor to ceiling windows.

That was 0047 apparently.

My Targa is an earlier number - 0159, but was apparently finished 1st December 1973, though all of the date stamped parts are September and October.

Paul - have you spoken with Dave Sunderland (Strasse, Leeds, 0113 2340 911)? He was Jack Tordoff's main spanner man back in the days of JT's many successes and prepped the cars for rallying.

The earliest RHD I know of is #134 which was UK suppied but is now a historic racer in Australia. Sam may know it as it was sold by Paul Stephens in 2006.

There are also two other UK coupes I know of which are earlier than Paul's.
