Re: Orange badge restoration
The next badge provided yet another challenge. This DDKer had specific instructions to maintain the patina of his badge. The badge was VERY dirty but had only one orange bar missing. The rest of the badge he wanted to keep original. So the challenge was to replace the one missing orange bar but match it to the 40 year old originals.
The back came up nice with a good clean up,
So to the front. I was asked to leave the whole front original apart from the repair. The front benefitted from a good clean up. I then had to modify the enamel process to build in 40 years of patina. I'd be interested to know which orange bar you guys think is the new one. It would help to work out if I am on the right lines.
Regards
Mike

Top orange bar on the left hand side from the finish ... except the bottom left is a slightly different colour to the others ... ooo it is tricky!

I'm going with the colour difference being the odd one out.

Re: Orange badge restoration
Me neither, all look the same to me. Good job.
I have one to send to you Mike, but it is slightly flattened, can you put the correct shape back into them as well?
Cheers

Re: Orange badge restoration
Mike - if you hadn't mentioned that one orange bar had been re-enamelled I don't think anyone would have been aware of any work being carried out (other than cleaning perhaps).
I think you've made brilliant progress in a very short time & the results you've shown are the first (& probably only) badge restorations retaining their (hard-earned) patina.
If I wore a hat I'd take it off to you !

Re: Orange badge restoration
These badges do look fantastic…..I'm half thinking I should replace the shiny badge on my car for the nice original I have!
I'll go top right to add some variety although really cannot tell.

Re: Orange badge restoration
Thanks Hendrik. Glad you are pleased. I loved doing this little baby 356 badge.
Hendrik wanted the missing orange bar replaced to match the originals and a modest cleanup to maintain the 50+ year patina for his lovely 356. This was the badge before work began.
Regards
Mike

Re: Orange badge restoration
A DDKer sent me this badge.
"do something with this"
I think the previous attempt at a refurb was below par. Can you tell that some of the colours are off?
If this was on Darren's bonnet would you guys have spotted the subtle differences between it and the quality of the rest of his resto?
Anyway, I looked at the badge and realized it was a genuine original but what would be under the last restoration? Damage? Well I set to work.
Here's where I started

Re: Orange badge restoration
Simply ready for the bin? Not worth the effort? Scrap? Not really sure why you kept that old nasty badge at the back of your workbench drawer? Might as well chuck it?

Re: Orange badge restoration
Hi Mike
The finished badges look fabulous and one day I will contact you about doing mine.
But my reason for posting now is the badge above that looks like its made by Bassetts, did the previous restorer give it extra legs and another appendage? Looks a bit rampant to me!
Got to wonder at the look of of the car it came from.
