I think the 75 also had steel rear arms rather than aluminium?

Guy - Do you know if electric windows were standard or optional for the two years? My 74 Targa has winders.

Aluminium arms on mine, think that was standard

Jonathan, I think it might have only been 1974 that had the chrome window switches. Are your rear window hinges and interior lights chrome?

Sam, The Carrera Targa only had manual windows until the 1977 model year Carrera 3.

'73 and earlier had steel rear arms, all models '74 and onwards had aluminium.

Yes they are indeed, all chrome to window catches, interior lights, window frames, front and rear screen, headlamps, door handles all as per your initial list, even has a chrome rectangular trim around the radio area and fascia heater controls panel..just all black window switches, in a smooth plastic, not textured

Ps Paul, sorry about this hijacking, but all these subtle differences are pretty interesting to find out..!

50 series tyres were introduced on 15" rims in 1976 MY and 16" rims were introduced on the 77 MY Turbo and became optional on the 78 MY 911SC

And it was a delight to not only find the correct style wheel with the car but to discover it was perfectly matched on the date stamp.

This is getting spooky, not only the same date as you on the MFI pump but I have exactly the same date stamp on my space saver....clearly Porsche weren't selling many of these cars and had a surplus of all manner of items...although the hold down bar on mine is different, slightly slimmer and smaller....must be to compensate for the increase in weight of the extra heater knob..

Another quote about the '74 Carrera from Georg Konradsheim:
“I do like them very much but there are not many of them in really good state on the market. I have not seen an almost perfect car for a very long time”.

And that is reflected in a very wide spread of asking prices.
A bad car can still be found for a reasonable price (well, maybe not) but don’t underestimate the work required to restore one.
It won’t be so very different to rebuilding an RS. Hence, the really nice examples can command a high price.

For me, there's only one way to restore a car properly and that is back to a bare shell.
Completely strip the car, eliminate any rust and re-paint.
Then take care to restore, rebuild or replace every component as it goes back on.

I decided I'd get the car dipped to see just how bad the corrosion was.
So, Nick collected the car from me to set about stripping it back to a bare shell in readiness for it's bath time.

Even before being dipped it was possible to detect some evidence of corrosion.....

Seat pans and rear shelf do at least look good. Not much else to feel optimistic about though.

The floor edges were shot, all the way round. Pretty much all the bottom few inches of the car had rotted away.
