Looking forward to following this and learning as you progress. Its a pity the subscription does not work, so many good threads to keep an eye on.

Really looking forward to this resto.

I must admit I hadn't fully appreciated how close it was to the RS - was there actually as weight difference and if so how much.

I'm hoping the outcome will be a very nice car for me. I'm certain with Nick's help (and many other specialists) it will be a good 'un.

They are great looking cars and this one (restored by Phil at Tech9) is a constant reference for me.
It strengthens my resolve when things get difficult. Or rusty...

The spoiler has been donated to the Porsche Museum.
It's on permanent display but remains my property.

Along with the car I did acquire a rubber lip from a '75 Carrera.
So, I thought maybe the wondrous bi-plane spoiler might have been built over a genuine ducktail (or a '75 'tea-tray').
Sadly the stylish spoiler proved to be entirely after-market, poorly constructed and made from fibreglass throughout (no metal frame).

I've kept the rubber spoiler in my garage eaves but the bi-plane spoiler was decreed 'surplus to requirements'....

About time these cars were recognised, being as they are probaly rarer than the RS in terms of examples actually left...some of them still even look like they used to....and some, well perhaps not quite...

..at least now they can be restored and realise a more appropriate value

Thanks Jonathan, not many are in as good an order as yours. And you're correct they are rare. Let's hope you kept the bumpers.

To explain the point Jonathan makes about rarity it's worth pointing out that Porsche manufactured 1,590 Carrera RS’s in 1973.
They made just 1,025 Carrera coupes in ’74 (with a further 518 in 1975).
I’m not sure how many were imported into the UK in RHD form but it wasn’t many. It’s a rare car these days after 40 years in the unforgiving British climate. And sadly for the ’74 IB coupe the identical mechanical spec made the car a prime candidate for the many RS replicas produced in subsequent decades. Not many survived this indignity and it’s only in very recent years that the value of an original car has exceeded that of a good, back-dated, RS replica. Sadly most shells were discarded after stripping the drivetrain. The cars were deemed beyond economic repair in those days, the only value lay in the engine. It makes finding a matching numbers car even more difficult.

45 UK RHD coupes in 1974 and 21 in 1975 according to Guy.

I won't spoil things by mentioning Targa numbers.
