912 Targa : A slow restore / refresh
I dropped my car into Newdigate Body today. It joins the queue behind another DDK, that isn't MT's!!
It has some rust issues that need to be sorted before they worst and the paint is being refreshed. I thought about taking it back to it's original colour but decided I like Polo Red more and it's almost a 67 912 colour.
I've had the car since Summer 2011. It has had the front pan replaced by Tuthill but otherwise has treated me well. The car was originally delivered in Germany and shipped to the States. In 1999 it was imported into the UK and the previous owner bought it after seeing it parked in Clapham.
I'm not experienced mechanically but the car will be learning tool. I've progress from not being able to change the oil, or changing the steering UJ and taking my generator out to be repaired. I'm taking an evening class in car mechanics.
After the respray I will progress onto setting up / refreshing the engine.
Hopefully next year I will be able to start on the interior and think again about taking it back to a soft top.
Some Photos from since I have had the car

Maybe Quick panic call to MT to ask for an opinion. It's appears that I have about 2 week to think about it.

Re: 912 Targa : A slow restore / refresh
As I offered by way of observation to Neil, although the car was supposedly resprayed Polo Red it is most definitely not that colour today. It was either never painted with the correct colour paint (although those early Cal photos do look closer to Polo Red), or the paint quality was v. poor and it has degraded a lot, as today it is more of a matte Brick Red. Not a bad colour in fact.
Therefore changing the colour back to original is going to be as complicated (or simple!) as respraying it Polo Red as both amount to a significant colour change.
And my vote is always for original colour on a car like this. (....as long as it's not Sepia, Sand Beige, Aubergine, Viper Green ...... )

It is your car of course, but I also think it would look brilliant in it's original colour....

Blue is is then.
Some inspiration from Mr Jury!
Also my 356 is probably Polo Red so it would be nice to have a different colour

Don't be swayed by the masses! The blue looks soooo good though.
