When were rear seatbelts installed as standard?

Post by yoda »

Hi

Does anyone know when rear seatbelts were installed as standard by Porsche in the 911? I am guesisng it was around the time the 3.2 Carrera was introduced (1984?) but would like to find a date.

Thanks

I've got an 84 Carrera and it has rear lap belts. There are mount points on the parcel shelf for over-the-shoulder belts, but these are not fitted.

Just to confuse matters...the '71 car I sold last year also had rear lap belts...but I assume someone fitted them later in its life.

Hi Ian

Thanks for your reply - I was looking for a date for full 3 point belts fitted as standard. Sounds like it is post 1984.

If it helps, I bought a brand new BMW 3 series in November 1984 and it came with rear belts. IIRC this was then made an EU requirement . I remember thinking it would be safer for my kids.
