Post by moggy »

Come on lad, I'm itchin to know what happened. Looks like you were having a great battle with the 911RS then when the quick Escort lost a load of time and dropped back I thought..... here we go!!! put your foot down Alan.......... and then wallop ??? looked like you had a max time on SS8 (?) and then you dropped out.

There's a story there I know :P so let's be having it

Yes he was going well, still credited with finishing though, after the problem on stage 8.
My mates in the Avenger and Imp had a good run.

Attached link will tell the story (sniff)

We were doing OK at the start - Lying 2nd overall by end of first day ... and not by to many seconds , but 2nd stage out on Sunday morning , and things came to a fairly sudden stop ..... I have not done the sums , but 1350 kg at 100mph ++ takes a lot of stopping ............. tree lovers will be glad to know that the tree survived.

I don't recommend watching if you are of a nervous disposition ... both of us were grand , but I wanted to wait a while before going public , in case of any after affects (mental or physical !!)

Ouch!!!

A cold shiver went through me as you crested that corner and I saw how you were then positioned, instantly the buttocks clenched and I thought... this is the one!!! before you'd even said "oh shite". To happen on a 1 and carrying so much speed I'm so glad both of you simply walked out of that. Car/driver was flying up to that point, despite the dry then damp/slippy then dry then mud etc conditions :)

But let's not dwell on the past  concentrate on the future. C'mon spill the beans, I know you must have a cunning plan up your sleeve  what's cooking??

Finish a light SWB 911 . then rebuild the 928 ...... targetting 150 Kg less weight (might achieve 100Kg !!)

But first to tour USA on two wheels for a month... (I bought a bike (with large engine !!) on ebay , will sell as I leave... has to be better than $150 ++ per day to hire one !!!)

nuff plans for you ??

You buying vehicles on Ebay.... mmm... haven't I heard some funny adventures regarding you and buying vehicles on Ebay before  that bike/USA thing sounds like a story in the making, should be fun 8)

If you're gonna someday get round to rebuilding the 928 I'll keep my ear to the ground for a deal on a rolling shell for you then. Although I think you'll struggle to get it down to 100Kg!!! unless you make it out of papier mache and balsa, which with the weather being the same in Ireland as it is in Wales I wouldn't recommend

Richard ... I already have a rolling shell in stock !! (err well , sort of rolling) .. and the 100Kg was a reduction figure , but sure you knew that anyway .
PS. The price of your B&B , workshop hire , and Navigator rental for the Ulster 2013 ......... has just doubled !!

Ouch indeed, it was all going so well. What a bugger, but hey, that's rallying! Really pleased that you both walked away, must have been quite a moment. I have been in a similar one myself and know how buttock gripping the moment is. As Moggy says, look to future.
Enjoy your two wheel excursion.
