That's a very charitable perspective. I'm a bit dissappointed with Raby there.

Replace the centre of the seats and that could be a very cool car, but a misunderstanding of the absolute basics doesn't fill you with confidence that the rest of the ad is accurate.
I think Phil just had a senior moment and would not mislead anyone about the car as he has a good track record in the porsche world. I looked at the car yesterday and can confirm it's a euro spec 2.7 lux (165bhp) and is very nice. As to the rarity it's the last of the narrow bodied cars and i think they only made about 1800 of them. I have one in my garage so maybe they are not that rare !

As a past member of DDk a friend recently let me know about this discussion and as the old owner thought I'd clarify the end result of the car.

It's a shame Phil never put some of the pictures I had on his site as the colour looks great in the flesh but does look rather drab in shots , especially non running backed out of a garage !!

The colour is a 356 shade called aquamarine. The car had everything done to it possible bar the engine and when I popped the 2.4 in , which I bought on DDK , the engine was sent off and stripped , prior to my plan to rebuild it.

The list of parts was extensive , with al electrics / suspension and interior all done as well as rewired , new fuel & brake lines/discs , in fact just about every part , bar the engine , hence the huge invoice file...All ights all replaced with OEM parts , all dials recalibrated , new rubbers , carpets and even £220 for the radio speaker cover to top of dashboard, al via Southbound as well as original thru grill lights and grilles , and new rear grille and wiper. new fuel and oil tank , all new door barrels , window mechs , ignition system, new wiper motor , starter motor , a clewett set up to replace the original marelli distributor , the list went on and on......Nick Moss provided the R spec rear fuchs , Bob Tilton the ivory side decals and the lovely R style steering wheel was from germany , along with NOS indicator stalk and wiper stalks and wevo shifter which cost all cost a fortune !!....The chap who performed the body restoration did an outstanding job , and was recommended by Chris Turner who had worked on the car. Unfortunately a family illness and continuing problems with a landlord meant he disappeared but all of his work was well documented . and when at Paul Stephens they had commented on how well it presented , even though they disagreed with my choice of later spec sills for rigidity !!

When there I think John Glynn took some shots which appeared on his Facebook page , and he and Sam felt it was a Tiltonesque (sic) car , having noted lots of the small details like the wevo anodised door pulls and the R steering wheel and so on !!

The alarms were insisted upon by Hagerty when it was insured for £55k on a new for old basis , and then a tracker was requested when it spent time stored in central london and these both required the extra custom battery set up to stop the batteries draining.

When I got all the paperwork together I could see that no stone was left unturned, bar the engine , and the brightwork. The underdash kneeboards (?) were one piece as it was from a SWB car to delete the ashtray.

I took the car back from Phil to think about getting the 2.2 engine back in which had begun its rebuild , but within 72 hours an offer of the original asking price was made and the car is now on its way to Europe.

The car sat unused and in storage and although the plan was to keep it , hence the choice of colour (of which there is one other somewhere ?), after a few hundred miles in two years seemed better someone drove it.

Im sure itll pop up again here at some point and was great fun when i did drive it !!

Paul

Glad I have came across DDK, never a truer saying in 'All that glitters is not gold'.

I often look at some of these European car sites and drool over the cars, dangerous!

So we have a scenario of a car long advertised and unsold in the UK, the owner that then comes on retrospectively to provide some very good information about the car, its history and provenance that was missing through the attempted sale process and then a result for him - sold to europe for the asking (was that £30 or £35?) and then reappears in germany. For joke money presumably still with the mismatched engine fitted. Is it the 1st of April? hohoho
