I only flipped a connector 180 degrees...but I'll take the compliment

I like Dyno labels, but I opted for one of these... a steal at 3 quid:

Picked my shell up post media blasting today :) ….

Image

Have to say that Cleaning Consultants do an absolutely outstanding job; they may not be the cheapest however the shell comes back totally bare, ripple free and without any primer covering any hidden grisly areas - after all, the integrity of all subsequent paintwork is only as good as the base underneath it!

A shell of two halves - the back is surprisingly good…

Image

Image

….the rear quarters (along with the front wings) were newly replaced prior to the vehicle being taken off the road, these will be unstitched, removed and refitted once all the grot underneath has been sorted…

Image

Image

…the front however has seen better days….

Image

…can you see the joins?…

Image

…the floors are better than expected…

Image

…although the doors look toast! - guess I'm looking for new doors! :?

Image

…a 911 in kit form, new OSF inner wing to be joining this lot soon…

Image

…and safely delivered to the Metal Meister; all a bit deja vu…

Image

Image

...and a bit Blue Peter - you start with a rusted old 911, a few scraps of metal and some sticky back plastic….

Image

…and here's one I made earlier….

Image

…a solid 911 shell will follow although with this one there's a few planned twists!

Cheers Jason, well it certainly needs some patching, fortunately Barry's does a better job of hiding the joins!

I think it was always going to be Tangerine - in places anyway!

Nearly there with my final build spec, will list this soon.

Nice progress Darren. Good that it'll be Tangerine, in 'segments' maybe?

Does the build spec ever have to be final?

Amazing what you can find beneath the paintwork of a fairly solid looking 911…..

Image

Initial assessment from Barry; I'd already purchased half the metal needed to build a 911 shell…today he told me to buy the other half!

As you all know I'm a lover of the 'glamour shots' whereas Barry likes to get up close and personal….

Actually not quite true regarding the amount of metal needed and it is rather good in places; still, should keep Barry busy for a week or two!

With the ever increasing values of these early cars I've decided that it would make more sense to sell my 2.2S engine, find a suitable replacement 2.4 unit and turn this car back into a nice stock 1972 2.4T :) ...........

I would love to say I will have the engine, but not sure I could afford it, by the way I cant decide if this is tongue in cheek :P

Good call. These outlaw / racer / hot rod things are so passe - can't see the point of self expression, drive it for the thrill and not the value type attitudes

what, build a car to drive it, hoon it, track it and generally just for the hell of it... for the noise that makes you smile... do a project for the satisfaction it gives you

dont be stupid...who on earth would do that ??

mind you I do feel slightly sick when I think I bought a 74 carrera in bits for £12k in 2010 and then decided to sod it when barry told me it would be £15k of labour to sort the shell. RHD, Black with red sidewinders. whoops :(

Us hot rod guys have it all wrong.
Rebuild the car to bone stock, make sure all the parts come out of bags with Porsche on them, take it to Essen and place a 6 figure selling price on it.

Then bring it back home and place in a dry garage or display cabinet

No, I'm happy with the patina and dings on my 73T with a 3.2 in it.
