My size of choice in recent years has been 225/60R15 on the 8s and 205/60R15 on the 7s.
I'm not going to consider a 50 profile tyres as the side wall is too small for the European rallies I do.
Might just get away with 55 profile on the wider rear tyres but really want 60's or even 65's. (55's and 65's seem to be even rarer than 60's anyway !)
Problem now seems to be 2 fold -
1) Trying to find a single tyre model that is available in both front and rear sizes
2) Lack of main brand (eg Goodyear, Pirelli, Bridgestone, Continental, Michelin) performance road tyres available in 60 profile apart from ridiculously expensive Motorsport options
Here is what I've found on line in the more difficult to find 225/60R15 (excluding the very cheap brands)
I've grouped them into rough price bands in order of cheapest first.
Mass produced tyres <£100
Falken ZE912 (/914) - used this before. well priced but grip level drops off quickly with use
Avon ZZ3 - anyone know how this compares ?
Kumho KH17
Hankook Optimo K415
Vredestein Sportrac 3 - anyone know how this compares ?
Uniroyal 440 (not sure if this is still available) - Tried these many year ago on another car and remember them as having very soft sidewalls.
215/60R15 ONLY -
Kuhmo Solus KH17 (<£100)
Toyo Proxes CF1 (<£100)
Yoko C drive (<£100)
Goodyear NCT5 (£130)
Pirelli P600 (£180)
Premium tyre brand options
Only one I could find was this -
Continental Premium Contact 2 £130 - not marketted as a sports tyre so shying away from this compared to some in the <£100 category. Shame it isn't the Sport Contact option. I have these on my BMW and they are great !
Anyone know of any others ?
3rd group is the Motorsport tyres but prices take a massive leap into the stratosphere
Yokohama A032R £215 - No personal experience of using these but think they again have low tread depth and last no time at all. Presumably a good tyre through ? Would appreciate any advice about performance/wear/etc. using this tyre in a fast road/rally application ?
Avon CR6ZZ £300 - Used these in 185/70R15. I know they have brilliant grip in wet and dry 9and cover you in black marks when you handle them !) but at £1200 for 4 it does start to make it a bit ridiculous ! Also very low tread depth from new and last no time at all.
Dunlop D84J £??? - Used in smaller sizes. Great tyres in wet and dry. Different compounds available. Soft wears out in a day of rally no problem. Medium/Hard compounds possible for road use. Very shallow tread depth. Heaps of grip and least they don't cover you in loads of smelly black stains like the CR6ZZs !

Would like to go for CR6ZZ (or Yokohama or D84J) but price, low tread depth and high wear rate makes them prohibitively expensive. Therefore curently thinking about Falken ZE912, Avon ZZ3, Kumho KH17, or Vredestein Sportrac 3.
Thing is I'm not really that keen on any of these and only one I have any personal experience of on my 914/6GT are the Falkens which I can only describe as adequate

Any other options people know about or any personal experience of using any of these tyres welsome ?
