Re: My new project.........
What is starting to sound like hand painting would be cheaper unless doing the progress you describe you can create a batch to sell on to cover some of your costs

'Cheap' isn't a premise to be associated with this project.neilbardsley wrote:hand painting would be cheaper

Re: My new project.........
So the next stage after getting the artwork to scale with the projector, is to make the masks the painters will work from.
Mandy the artist has made the designs from the photos of the original car together with my ideas on how to pretty things
up, as we have done all through the build process. The dropped '7' for instance on the doors looks great, especially where
it runs off the roundel onto the silver paint, but the cockeyed '1' just looks wrong so not doing that.
Here's Mandy and painter Jason poring over the finer detail of the masks:

Re: My new project.........
We use positive masking to figure out the final positioning of the art work, here working on the rear quarter. Then when your
happy with the position you mark it, pull off the positive mask and a negative one goes on in it's place ready for painting.
Getting the right angle of the MARTINI RACING and how it runs up the panel was difficult, there's a natural shadow line in the
quarter which effects it as well. Should have bought shares in masking tape given the amount we used trying to get it right!
Notice how the letter spacing of MARTINI and RACING are different, took me ages to figure out why, then I found the picture of
the team transporter and the penny dropped, the words sat on top of each other there, so were sized to the same length.

First paint to go down was the white for the roundel and the base for the Martini Belt.

Re: My new project.........
Hope this car does not get parked in one.
It needs to wake up a few tracks first.
Been a very long time since we say more than 30% of one 1/4 view of the whole thing.
Be great when we get the 'Full Monte'

It's just over 5 years and 7 months since the start of this thread.
Question is Mike....will it be all finished before 6 years??
It must be in sight now....surely??
