Touareg an option? I think it's better looking than a Q7

Re: O/T New Company Car time
I had a look at a Touareg last night, and was amazed how expensive it was.

You'd be amazed at the mpg too.
But not in a good way...
Other than that Touaregs really are pretty competent.

Re: O/T New Company Car time
I'm in X5 camp. Looked at XC90 but couldn't get past lack of pace. My wife also nixed 7 seat E class. Sat in q7 & never gave it another thought, huge, ugly & despite that felt small inside. Could have been black interior.
The X5 replaced a 535d Touring which was awesome, but 4th child meant we needed 7 seats. X5 is actually shorter so easier for wife to parallel park (still a slow process) but very wide. Alloys no longer pretty as crashed on every kerb. Extra height means not as fun as 535d but still got great legs, but X5 interior is wonderful. Cream leather & bamboo wood a great combo. Sun roof worth having. Be aware specification of 7 seats plus universal roof exceeds most company car scheme budgets, so uncommon build combination.
We've put 18000 on in first year, the X5 is a wonderful car if you want space, pace & luxury.

We didn't have a car but I did have a seat on the cross bar of my Dads bike.

I vote for a sliding scale of road tax based on vehicle size/weight ...

Have to agree. This is all wrong. How many kids are growing up riding rounding the back of a Zafira or some other ghastly Mum bus. If you want your kids to get into cars, start making the memories now!smallspeed wrote:See this I understand, but the guys I work with who have one baby and buy a people carrier worry me! When my daughter was young and we had no money, we had a '57 Morris 1000 hot rod, then a '74 Saab 95 estate, followed by '80 Benz SLC. My daughter is now 20, she can still remember those cars and guess what, she is right into cars. We've just hot rodded her VW.

Big car but drives with one finger on the wheel. Lovely smooth quiet ride. Foot down, slight pause and the shark's nose rises up and a big wave pushes you down the road. You could pull tree stumps if need be.smallspeed wrote:Merc slc.. What a car!

Pillarless styling is super cool with all the windows down.
I'd be up for the 5 touring / 1 series combo. I've got the new 5 touring and it's a fantastic car, really good mile muncher, rides fantastically, loads of space in the boot and looks handsome.
Get the auto tailgate its a revelation.
And I've driven a 1 a few times and would be well up for short town trips - runs to the station etc. Nicely balanced and good quality.
The Q7s are humungous. I saw one outside a terraced house in london where they'd taken out the front garden to make a parking space. The Q7 was as wide as the house. Seriously.

Re: O/T New Company Car time
Got to agree that 7 seaters are illogical if no reason of family size. There is so much more to choose from if you don't need 7 seats! However the size of kids car seats means very few cars can fit 3 seats across std back seats, in our 5 series with three kids we never unclipped belts & made kids climb in & out as impossible to get to clips. So some people picking MPV / 4x4 with seven seats will be people giving up on cramming into std cars.
Sorry for turning this into Mumsnet!
As for inspiring the kids, that's what the Porsches are for!

Re: O/T New Company Car time
I promise I did listen to all the advice, however 'technically' this is Mrs Jury's car so she signed the paperwork....
...which goes some way to explain why this is now parked on the drive...
I actually quite like it, even though it has a Drug Dealer/Footballer chic to it. Was funny picking it up from Audi dealer dressed in well-worn Jeans, T-shirt and Trainers, ( Trainers were quite special, but won't bore you with the details )
Cars have certainly got bigger over the years...
