What do you think of the 964 C4 ? I still have one in a shared arrangement within my family, andshoestring7 wrote:My two:

I read your comments on another post, and had a bit of trouble understanding them then! I've driven a 993 C2 plus various IB cars, and think the 964C4 compares well; you can really feel the added weight and refinement over a 3.2, but its still more raw than a 993. The steering and controls are only heavy by modern hatchback standards, but the weights are well matched and have that perfect Porsche precision and linear response. In the C4 the brakes are fully powered (not servoed) and very strong.Jasper wrote: What do you think of the 964 C4 ? I still have one in a shared arrangement within my family, and
never liked it extremely heavy controls etc and its a minter ? The difference between it and a 993 C4S
is staggering, totally chalk and cheese![]()

There is more understeer on turn-in than some 911s at slow speed, but unlike a fwd car, once you're past the apex you get on the gas and it goes neutral. The torque to the front wheels dampens the normal 911 chatty steering, but compared to anything more modern its like a 7 year old after their 2nd can of Redbull. Ride on the light 16" wheels is compliant and controlled, and with modern rubber there's more grip than you can used on the road. Road noise though it significantly worse than the later cars, but again the deeper sidewall of the 16" tyres help. And in the wet its a hell of a lot more secure than most 911s. I also believe the more sophisticated 4wd system used on the 964 makes it very good than the lighter, simpler 993 system in the snow (but I'm not about to test that!). The '64 motor is a lovely grunt thing, and IMO has the best engine note of an 911.
One thing though; my 964 has only 47,000 miles on and is probably one of the best in the country. Its also had a recent £5k full suspension re-build including springs, bushes, ARBs and dampers. I suspect a lot of opinion on 964s is based on driving tired and unloved cars.
