Re: Rometsch Porsche Spyder replica build
Looks like a great project & it seems to be progressing at a rapid rate !
Do you know why the original car adopted that unusual (unique ?) handbrake arrangement ?

Re: Rometsch Porsche Spyder replica build
I am going to make the body the same way that I build the body from my Formula Vee. Make an inside mould that I am going to glassfiber and brake out later. So I will get a smooth interior finish from the glassfiber panels and paint them flat alu. The inside, fire wall, floors etc. merely from Alu. Door engine cover and front hood also Alu or thin steel.
The chassis is nearly finished so now I am going to make the steel subframe.

I assume to "set" the back from the car in tight corners. In the days that this car raced it was normal that they raced in the centers from the cities as they called "stadtparkrennen".Lightweight_911 wrote:Looks like a great project & it seems to be progressing at a rapid rate !

So I guess the handbrake from the original car worked bij pulling the level downwards to the tunnel without any locking facility. Our rules (your IVA?) here in the Netherlands say that the handbrake must have a locking possebillity so that it is locked when the car is parked. So i made it to work drawing from the tunnel up and used the original Beetle locking facility.

Made the gear shaft in the chassis. Because I don't know how far the gearbox comes into the chassis I made an old Buggy trick: M12 in the saft so I can adjust length and angle later.

Also started to make the brake lines and to make the subframe. Left site floor section is nearly finished.

Like the original: hand crafted aluminium gearshift and alu handbrake knob in place and I started to make the curved frame parts of the rear subframe.
