3.0 RS underway
Hey, so i figured i would start up a thread all of my own.
I have reached the point of no return.
And hey why not i vestigate the front inner wing whilst im at it..
Oh my!!
I knew it wouldnt be good news as the car had been previously 'restored' by some non porsche specialist classic chaps. I could tell from the way they had glued the front wing on with rubbery mastik type stuff, and copiously filled and smoothed older holes with fist sized balls of rubbery globs that it would be grim. Still onwards and upwards!
Anyone got a front inner wing going spare?
Cheers

Re: 3.0 RS underway
How did it pass the MoT for the last 5 years?
I suspect the rust will be far deeper into the shell than you can see so far!
Good luck with the work, please keep us informed with lots of pics.
Graham.

I have a knack for picking up 911s that have lived by the sea. I presume the sea air is less kind to them. On the plus side the prev owner has already restored the offside with new inner outer sills b posts n kidneys.
Im a bit pssd the front inner wing is so bad as its not the easiest thing to find good metal for. I dont think i have seen any repair sections. U think it needs an off cut from a good donor.
The top of the inner rear arch is crusted through aswell.
Nothing that cant be fixed

Indeed, a full tear down.
I think a donor 'nose' would be a good idea as that front section is complex and the bumper tube has to be spot-on.
Have you done this kind of thing before? If so you know what is ahead of you!
We are here to help, advise, encourage, but no money.
Get stuck-in, we are right behind you.

For £4k I'd be tempted to see how solid this is and swapped your bits over.

Yeah. I need to talk some with mark rs911.com he will know whats what.
My last project turned out ok and started from essentially the same starting point, though admittedly i did start saving the last one 8 years ago. This one has had more time to fester.

I bought some 924 15" wheels to get her roling as i have sold the 7n9s.
Thought like a goon i didnt check the offset. They rubbd so i bought some spacers then had to smash them up to get the bits on as they didnt fit.
