Picture of a washer bottle used a a oil catch tank please
Hi,
I want to fit a washer bottle to the engine compartment to use as an oil catch tank. Does anybody have a photo of how it fits in and which other pipes go into it. Is it held in by a strap? Are there any old washer bottles available kicking about before i buy one from porsche? Cheers Rich

If you're using the earlier (swb) washer bottle - as supplied for the 911R, T/R, early ST, etc - here's the Factory installation diagram:
The rubber strap is from a 356B/C (holding fuseblock cover).

Darren - I don't think there's any advantage/necessity for a standard car - or one fitted with a std air cleaner - this modification/addition was aimed at modified cars which dispensed with an air cleaner.
On a std car, any excess oil 'fumes' from the crankcase are vented initially to the oil tank & from there back into the intake via the air cleaner.

Darren, I need to pop down to your neck of the woods and see the ongoing work on the E- I can show you how it fits then. If you are putting on a standard air intake and all it's gubbins then it doesn't matter! Cheers Rich

Take 2:
Inside the crankcase is like a tornado with the crank thrashing the air about. So there is a fog of oil. As gases leak past the ring you need to allow air to exit the crankcase but it would make a terrible mess if dumped into the engine bay. So the air is piped to the oil tank to allow big drops to be recovered and the remaining fine mist is drawn into the air box and burnt up inside the engine. However on a race car with no intake box you connect the hose to a catch tank to collect the oil vapour. Also reduces the risk of dirty plugs on a highly tuned race engine.

Thank you for the further explanations - I've only been in the motor trade for 25 years so still finding my feet - but then was the last time you met a car salesman who knows anything about cars!
Cheers,
Thanks Rich, look forward to meeting up. Give me a call whenever convenient.911flyboy wrote:Darren, I need to pop down to your neck of the woods and see the ongoing work on the E- I can show you how it fits then.
