Maybe you could jack the L/H rear up,remove the wheel, then take out the wiring plug to the rear lights, then push the plug bit into the engine bay and try to thread a bit of welding wire with a hook on the end through the hole and try to get on the cable retainer on the catch, its worth a go!!!

New engine lids aren't that expensive. I think there are a couple on ebay at the moment. I paid under £100 for a perfect one. I hate to say it but possibly the quickest option is to cut the lid.

Or alternatively - has it got a plastic engine lid grille ?

If so, I would cut that out & put my hand down through the opening...

Secondhand plastic grilles can be had for ~ £50.

It looks as if though this may be the answer. My mate Paul Herbert is off to JAZ in the afternoon and will ask one of their guys how they handle it.

If that doesn't bring the required knowledge then I am gonna jack it up and have a look to see if I can reach it.

if not I am gonna have to cut that grill. :x

Could someone please explain which side the leaver is on the latch that need to be pulled?
I am thinking that it must be on the nearside or left side as you look at the back of the car.

This is all quite annoying really!
