We need to meet...

Not sure if you are referring to my posts above, but don't take any of mine as being excuses not to meet up. I love Ddk drives. Driving the cars is what it all about.

The more we can have the better. It's great to see enthusiasm too, as over recent year it has Been difficult to get people out.

Up north, we've never done the regular meet thing ....ours have been more based around the weather forecast :) down in your neck of the woods you have the monthly fair mile meet.

Looked like a fantastic weekend James, would loved to have around at the time and look forward to anything similar in the future :)

The only thing with 'events' like the C2C (and don't get me wrong they're great when they happen and I'll want to be involved), as James well knows, is that they require a lot of organisation, planning, confirming numbers, chasing decisions, a lot of time out, often considerable expense, arranging people into groups, trying to accommodate all tastes etc etc etc - and often because they are a big deal it's got to be hard to put together.

I'm thinking more of a non-event, no major planning by anyone, no confirming numbers, no admission charges, no arrangements, just a 'meet' - a Sunday morning for a few hours, a set day, a good location, a car park full of early Porsches, a coffee shop, the chance to get together, leave the keyboard alone and just look at each others car and chat - our own thing, just DDK people and DDK cars.

Sure individual groups will make plans to drive down together, others might arrange a hotel the night before to arrive early but that's up to them and not a requirement - the meet would just be a time and place where DDK comes together.

For many such an occasion just wouldn't be enough and they'd want to do more and that's where a proper 'event' kicks in - the spin off could be that you get to know a greater number of people and there's more enthusiasm and attendence for future proper events.

I'm just a lowly SC driving interloper here, so my views are probably not wanted! However, I have previously been along to ImpactBumpers.com rolling road days which have had a great turnout. Book a place with a rolling road and arrange a burger van. Some can run their cars on the rollers and the rest can stand around and kick tyres. I think the first one had nearly 20 cars along. You also get to hear a flat six screaming away, which is always welcome.

Just an idea.

Great idea, and I have an offer for you all.

On 11 August, which is a satuday, I have the entire front lawn of my local museum to use for a car show.

I did a similar exhibition last year, focussing on Ford Motorsport, but it proved to be way more successful than hoped! It got a 6 page article in Fast Ford for example.

The format is entry is free, for both public and cars/exhibitors, tea and coffees available for drivers and passengers, come and go as you please.

The day is at Chelmsford Museum, with easy access from the A12, and despite being in the middle of Essex, there are some vgoood drives around.

Anyone interested?

A Sunday morning DDK meet - maybe just twice a year North and South?

No PCGB event - no Classics at the Castle - no, let's hook up at Silverstone/Goodwood etc - no camping - no euro tour - no CLM 2012 - no hotels - no booking in advance - no admission charge - no fuss!

Not knocking and love all the above but what about a simple Sunday morning drive?

A large car park and a coffee shop, coastal, scenic and off the beaten track for a sense of adventure? - chat, banter, appreciation, just DDK people and DDK cars - I'll show you mine if you show me yours!

R Gruppe seem to do it well... http://www.ddk-online.com/phpBB2/viewto ... 20&t=34605

What do you think?

Darren
I'm hoping to have my 356 back soon-ish, so depending on location then I'm in. Anything south is easier for me, but of course go with the flow and I'll do my best! :)

Darren, I missed this thread. I agree it'd be good to get together more often just for a meet... and the drive. Often the issue for me (and others it seems) is distance, everyone is quite far apart for a quick breakfast/coffee meet, as has been said.

I've been thinking for a while that those of us in the West Country seem to be pretty slow in getting together locally, or maybe we're just slow?

In the South East DDK has the lush lawns of the Fairmile for a regular evening meet and our Friends in the North have meets for chips n gravy at the drop of a hat

How about meeting for the occasional drive out and maybe even a regular meet? I'm in Bath and I know there a few other DDKers nearby, so somewhere in the Bristol/Bath/Wilts/Glos area?

There are plenty of places to go; I haven't been to the Haynes Motor Museum for a long time or Beaulieu and the South Coast. Castle Combe circuit has plenty going on, then there's those lovely Cotswold roads leading to nice pubs or get across to the twisty mountain roads of South Wales - all very accessible from the sunny West Country.

I know this is slightly off your OP but I'll post in events and see what interest there is...

I'm right with you Nigel and would love to meet up anytime with fellow Porschoholics, just name the time and place.

Needs a cool guy like you to build some momentum
