Amazing coincidence !

Just shows how small the early Porsche 'scene' is in the UK (& especially in Scotland).

I had a nice chat with David. He was the young assistant in the garage owned by the guy that Brendan spoke to on the phone. David lightly restored Eve in the mid 70's. It was the owners car but David constantly badgered him to sell it to him which he eventually did. He was in his twenties and was very lucky to have a Porsche. He confirmed it was black when it arrived in the Borders. It had 5 and half in Fuchs and Hydropneumatic front suspension (well remembered!), he had no idea it was originally LHD, he confirmed he gave the car a freshen up black respray, fitted hydraulic chain tensioners, and possibly fitted the ducktail. David eventually branched out on his own and still runs a Borders garage to this day. He confirmed his original boss is now retired but may have the odd old car stashed away even yet including a Porsche.

David sold the car to a good friend in the Borders who is also still in the motor trade. All three guys are still friends and meet up occasionally. His friend eventually sold the car to the Glasgow area which is where our farmer friend eventually bought it about 20 years ago.

David confirmed he had never taken too much notice of the chassis and engine numbers and had no idea of it's previous history. Such things were not top of the agenda when you were a young apprentice driving your own early 911! David said he has three period photo of him with the car which he will copy and send on to us.

So, finally Brendan, Leslie and me found a nice bright Sunday to drag the car out of it's new hideaway home for a good clean and proper investigation with some detailed photos. The first thing was to go through the pockets, glovebox etc to try to find any titbits. We found this first,

Can anyone positively identify these seats? We have the originals so presume these are mid-late 70's replacements. They have been expertly covered to match the original interior and are in fantastic condition.

Not mint but I can see the hole...
If you haven't got 2nd gear by the time the lights go green, then you've made a bad start.

Eve has found the rescuers she was waiting for. Glad I stumbled on this story, I'm not down here in the 911 section much...

We are having one last effort in the near future to get full details from the archive. All efforts up to now have drawn a blank.

Awaiting period photos from a previous owner.

More current photos with some interesting details still to come.

Hope to tie it all together shortly. 8)

Mike
