First Drive

Post by beanpoleuk »

Well having now passed IVA, I couldn't wait for me first proper drive, I had never driven a beetle so did not know what to expect, but having built the Robin Hood 2B and the Cobra I knew how different rides can be compared to expectations.

Well I was pleasantly surprised, I knew the steering would be 'heavy' as I had added caster shims and all joints were new, but turned out not as bad as I thought , the steering was a bit vague at first, but a slight adjustment of the steering box play sorted that. The 1600 twin port (recon) is actually quite nippy around town etc and quite happily cruises at 70+ with plenty left.

An added bonus is that nothing has worked loose or fell off yet and not knock's or rattles and none of the annoying fibreglass creaks you sometimes get with kit cars .

Can't wait for more nice weather :)

Thanks for the kind comments, I was worried about the choice of leather, but it was very supply and went on very well, no wrinkles or creases, well pleased with the result.

The seats are recovered MX5 Mk 2 and give a vry low seating position, well for a short ar*e like me anyway.

I do have clock to match the gauges, but couldn't decide where to mount it or pluck up the courage to drill another hole in the dashboard.

Now just need some nice weather
