Re: BMW 2002 tii
I had 3, 02's, 1602, 73,2002, 75 2002, and rust on the front panel was the main problem.
I was able to get new body parts from Euro Car Parts at the time. I think you would want to want
one ! IMO a mark 1 Golf GTI is a nicer car.

BMW 2002 tii
Martin, why not go for a 924 turbo or an early 944, local to you? About the same performance or better and great road holding etc etc? Alternatively, I noticed the other day on eBay an e12 m535i with LSD etc. surely, that is a rare car, let alone in Sing? Great reliable family sporting saloon in comparison to the amv8?
Best regards,
Bert

Unfortunately here in Singapore it ain't that easy as we can only import cars that under 3 years old or over 35 years, however here's a link to a few 'nice' 944's presently for sale in Singapore (divide by 2 for sterling).

The 88 Turbo S (Silver Rose) was very tempting until I looked at the panel gaps and then had a debate about the accident repair, the rest are frankly shot

Bringing this back to tii s, what about sourcing from Australia? I would assume that there is less chance of rust etc
Here's one I found earlier

Re: BMW 2002 tii
Over the last few months, it would seem that the Ebay 'sweet spot' for a nice RHD tii seems to be around £5.5 to 6k.
This well known 74tii just sold for £5479:
whilst the beige car went for £5963:
As much as I am tempted, a voice inside keeps telling me that I should wait for that illusive 'rust free' 74 911, although that might change now that I've just discovered that an early M3 (S14) engine will bolt right into the 2002 engine bay

Re: BMW 2002 tii
The red car has gone "cheap" as it is an Irish car and hence doesn't have a UK MoT, which would be a turn off for GB buyers. If it has gone to a GB buyer, well done to him, he has taken a punt and got a cracker.
If you were happy buying a not totally original 02 ( it was non orig paint colour and interior, but otherwise totally pukka), that was the car to have gone for. If you want a totally original car, then you have the other Dublin car at 10k euro or the Oz car at 20k Aus$, or go and see Eclectic and pay the premium
As you know my car sold for considerably more, but then it had a few more toys.
Yes, an early M3 engine bolts in, but then you have to beef up the transmission and drive train, and you are left with a mongrel
If you want a quick 02 the other option is to buy a std 02 ( non tii) and tune the engine to ti spec with twin Webers and fancy internals to 180 odd HP, at least you then have a car that you can punt on as a ti ( though non were made in RHD), which the sporting fraternity would be interested in.

Agreed - unfortunately at 4am (Singapore time) in the morning my wits nor my fingers could keep up with this fellow - anyway he certainly has a got himself a good car.MikeB wrote:The red car has gone "cheap" as it is an Irish car and hence doesn't have a UK MoT, which would be a turn off for GB buyers. Re: BMW 2002 tii
I am still perplexed as are others why you are looking at buy a car blind specifically from an island just off France?
You are looking at a 35 year old car to ship it halfway around the world. The UK is the one of the worst places for rust. It has rough roads and average levels roadworthiness for older cars.
You then want them to fit a/c in a country where there is no experience of it and wonder why no one knows how to fit it to a RHD car?
Most people I know who live in Singapore tend to buy a car in Malaysia and drive it over on the ferry. Japan has some good bargains due to the currency. If you are not happy with those as the others have mentioned there are also places like Australia which are all relatively easier to go check out yourself and have a good standard.

S14's are better left in e30 m3's in my opinion a rapidly appreciating very useable classic!mrg3.6 wrote: that might change now that I've just discovered that an early M3 (S14) engine will bolt right into the 2002 engine bay

Hi sisu,
No experience of A/C in RHD cars
sisu - now that we've got the geography and economics out of the way, any thoughts on the merits or otherwise of buying a BMW 2002tii ?
Martin
Don't be perplexed, my last two cars were purchased blind from an even bigger Island the other side of Icelandsisu wrote: I am still perplexed as are others why you are looking at buy a car blind specifically from an island just off France?
My small contribution to the UK economysisu wrote: Why are you looking at a 35 year old car to ship it halfway around the world.

Yes, they call them Malaysians and most of them ride into / out of Singapore on 50cc mopedssisu wrote: People I know who live in Singapore tend to buy a car in Malaysia and drive it over on the ferry.
Sterling presently has all the properties of monopoly money so plenty of good (non-911) bargains out there, otherwise haven't found anything in Japan, maybe you could point me in the right directionsisu wrote: Japan has some good bargains due to the currency.
Agreed but Oz and NZ are very expensive for anything half decentsisu wrote: If you are not happy with those as the others have mentioned there are also places like Australia which are all relatively easier to go check out yourself and have a good standard.

I know of an FIA RHD Alpina with over 200bhp. Bit more than 5k though!
964 C2 Targa. 205 1.6 GTi. Testarossa. Fisher Fury Fireblade. Motorhome. Motorbikes. Scooters. Pushbikes. Threadbare Saucony Peregrines. Dog. Human relations and friends. 97.5%-built house.
Re: BMW 2002 tii
OK I admit that wasn't the nicest way of putting it. I just thought you should use the location to your advantage. Anyway this is a Japanese auction here and it is easy enough to navigate around. There are others that use agents who will ferret out a spefic car for you. There are still a good depth of classic cars in Japan.
