Introducing the Porsche.... Macan!

Post by KS »

The what?

“The Macan combines all sports car characteristics with the benefits of a SUV and is a genuine Porsche”, said Bernhard Maier, Member of the Executive Board Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG. “The name of a new Porsche has to fit with the brand, sound good in very many languages and dialects and evoke positive associations.”

"Word names at Porsche have a concrete connection with the corresponding model and its characteristics: the name Boxster describes the combination of boxer engine and roadster, Cayenne stands for sharpness, the Cayman is snappy and agile and a Panamera is more than a Gran Turismo, capable also of winning the Carrera Panamericana long-distance race."

Oh, right...

Without the artistic licence of 28" wheels in the drawing and dreaming of an Evoque .
The reality will probably be looking at the Audi Q3/Q5 with 991 headlamps and tail lamps grafted on.

And so it continues......

Just another step on the inevitable dilution of what Porsche used to be (a manufacturer of 2 door sports cars and consultant to companies that wanted 4 doors), I'm sad to say.

Expect to see more and more platform/drivetrain sharing/ 4/5 door vehicles, eg new Cayenne Hybrid using an Audi V6 (not that I care!).
I love the smell of burnt rubber and hydrocarbons in the morning, it smells of......victory.

Yes, indeed: Later that day, Helmholtz Hedjfunder confirmed that Porsche has plans to build a medium sized 2 door hatchback, which will "fulfill people's needs for fascination, excitements and dynamic pleasingness, in a medium sized 2 door hatchback"

"We can also confirm" he added "that the new model will be called the 'Rolf' to convey a sense of talented friendliness, and it will be based on a extended and then shortened version version of the current VW group platform used for the, err, Golf"

"this" he went on "is continued evidence that Porsche is committed to continuing to prostitute its heritage in order to make really very vast stacks of money, and that by the time the driving public realise that we have discontinued the 911 series and replaced it with a Panamera with the engine in the boot, and lots of writing on the back, we will be laughing all the way to the bank, and not really be caring, yes?"

Already pictures have been leaked showing the Porsche Rolf GT3 RS, etc etc..
