hello from 356 owner in Manchester

Post by ibonsall »

Hi all,

I imported a 1960 356B Super 90 from the US, planning on being a long term restoration plan and thats just what I have got :-) Where do you start with this ?

Looking for local contacts near Manchester, other owners for comparison/clarification of parts etc, any localy recommended garages who may be willing to undertake some panel replacement/patching/welding.

In General anything porsche 356 in the locality appreciated then It wont feel like all the expertise is in Essex or the South Coast.

Spoken to Roger Bray who recommended this site and PR Services also undertook some work collecting the car from the docks.

Look forward to hearing from fellow entusiasts.
Cheers

Welcome!

It's well worth trawling through some of the older threads in the 356 section - avoid anything I might say and take your leads from the more informed repeat offenders on here... as far as I understand it though, you can't go far wrong with having PRS on speed dial in your phone

Thanks, just a bit too far away for practical DIY assistance ;-) I am trying to post a pic of the car on here but no matter what file type I try to append it doesn't seem to like it. whats the preferred ?

I will begin trawling this evening.
Thanks

Hi and welcome.

See here for posting pics.

You need to have your photos on a picture hoisting site e.g. Flicker, Photobucket or similar.

Cheers

Hi and welcome. I'm afraid 356 owners tend to be down south and most of the vendors are down there as well.
Being just north of Leeds, I'm not too far away and always happy to help if I can.

Nice looking car, hope it runs as good as it looks. People on here will help you with your questions for sure. Get the correct repair or restoration books that will help you a lot.

Without the books you are in the hands of other people. If you like doing some work yourself you will save yourself a lot of money and maybe even enjoy doing it.

Cheers

Car looks beautiful

Which are the recommended restoration books for the 356?
The simple things you see are all complicated

Welcome to DDk, your car does look beautiful. :) Here`s some recommended reading...

And if you don`t have one. the owners manual is a must have, it`s a mine of information....

There are other books that hopefully someone will jump in and recommend but these seven books will provide a good foundation for your 356 library. They should all be available on Amazon.... except the owners Manual, which is available as a reprint from... can`t remember  PRS most likely has them.

Regards, Mike.

Welcome,
Not sure if you posted your name?
The car looks a good base to start on. I am in Alderley Edge if you need any advise on the restoration people in the area. Not many!
The Dr Johnson book would be my first purchase.
PM me if you need to ask any questions.

It looks really lovely.
There is all the expertise you need on here.
I would just enjoy it until it becomes absolutely necessary to restore it.
