I think this is a "Silhouette" (?) but remember seeing a "Jalpa" parked on the Kings Road in Chelsea ( probably early eighties) and couldn't believe the noise when the guy started it up. From that point on I always wanted one, but now I'm not certain over how big my shovel would need to be to dig the hole to pour my money in to keep it going !!!!

Yes it is a silhouette which was the model before the Jalpa. My old Jalpa was featured in Classic and Sportscar some time ago. They came to my work to shoot it. £ 30k will buy a nice one.
If it was the late eighties it might have been me because I used to live in Hurlingham at the end of the New Kings road and often parked it up in the Kings Road. Was this the car ?

The Silhouette is much rarer and a RHD example is currently up for sale at £ 47k from memory.
Lambo's always look much better in the metal than photo's and the V8's sound easily as good as the V12's.

Sorry, I think too many years have passed to remember if that was the car ! The main thing I remember was the noise which was incredible and like nothing I'd ever heard before - cars like this were of course extremely rare at that time. Was it expensive to run/maintain ? Are all spares available? How was it to drive etc etc etc ?

I had my car serviced at Portman Lamborghini and Carrera Sport in Haywards Heath. Apart from the precautionary changing from sodium valve stems to solid ( £ 1200 job from memory but saved a
possible £ 8,000 engine rebuild ) the car never let me down.
The Jalpa was certainly the most exciting classic car Iv'e owned. The metallic sounding engine lies transversly just behind your head and in full battle cry at 7500 RPM sounds like a scalded cat
Giving it Wellie through the Hatfield tunnel with the targa top off was magical
Superb engine and sublime handling
I miss that car alot.

Boys, you have nothing to worry about. I'm a Hot Air Balloon Pilot and love to fly, it's a great sport. The incident that Steve links to was the tragic result of an attempt to fly to 20,000 ft, which requires oxygen and was for a Ballooning Award. Typically most Hot Air balloons fly between 1000 - 5000 ft. Hot Air Ballooning has a very good safety record with very few major incidents, let alone fatalities. Landings are very often soft and with the basket still upright; although there are those pilots that insist that a good landing is one where the basket is still above ground!
