I need to rebuild the search tables which will take sometime and could possibly crash the server.
I will set this off before I retire tonight and we will see what we have in the morning!

Thanks
search tables rebuilt, hopefully search all working as it should now

There still seems to be a slight problem with the search function - it doesn't appear to recognise 'figures only'. For instance if you search for '912' no results are found but if you search 912E there are. Similarly no results for 904, 906, 911, 914, etc

The new search function indexes a minimum of 4 characters I'm afraid

So (as an example) how do we find 356 Topics only ?

Two ways

If you were able to search with 3 characters only a search for 356 would bring up thousands of results so not the most usable.

However if you narrow your search to a longer string and put quotation marks around it e.g. "356 engine" you'll get some much more relevant results.

By putting multiple words in quotes the search engine will look for instances where those words appear together.

Second route

Use the wildcard function - put 356*

This will find posts with 356 in them and any character following it and seems to also find posts with just '356'

This brought up over 2000 posts for example

Hope this helps

Here's a real geeky difference. I think the old software opened a link in a new tab automatically (target=_blank) whereas the new software opens links in the same window.

Thanks Thomas/Nick, I was about to post on this issue then thought I'd better check this thread. FWIW I much prefer the old way when a new tab is opened, rather than being navigated away from DDK.... cos sometimes I get lost on the way back home

Any progress with links opening in a new tab as before or will things be staying as they are?

Cheers,

As they are
Remember to right click a link and open in a new window or hold down on a link and do the same with a Mac

Cheers - just sussed that if I hold and drag the link to the top bar on a Mac it opens the link in a new tab.

Didn't know I could do that - this works fine for me :)
