Hi Graham,
thanks for the kind words about my 914-6 - it was in for a bit of spring fettling. If you recall we met in a hotel car park in Botley for the clandestine swap of some stainless steel headers. They didn't fit in the end which was a shame.
Took a look at the Lola when I was there -it is a work of art. Best of luck with getting her sorted.

didn't make any connection, but remember the 'swop'. Hope Turbo Thomas was OK.
Really nice 914-6 though. Never really looked hard at one before but a lot of nice details and curves with the GT wings.
The Lola will be down at Bob's again for the original tweek to the carbs. Hope this time we have a 6 pot engine and sweet as a nut.
My confidence needs some restoring as much as the car...
I had hoped to spend the day there originally to see how the car went and take a 'youtube' clip for a laugh.
Maybe James at Bob's will do one if I ask.

Just spoken to Bob....
Had a call from him early in the week about the huge 38mm chokes (bit big) and as he could not find some 34's in time he tuned it as best he could today.
I think he is trying to kill me as he has dialed a huge 269 bhp and 234 lbft from this little car by "throwing-out the rule book" and jetting it to work.
Hot Rod style, just right for this Lola.
What a result!
I am dead chuffed to have come from a 5 cylinder pop and bang f@rt of an engine, through a rebuild on a shoestring against the watch and come out the other side with this result.
The car weighs 530 Kg, so 480 bhp/tonne.
Peak torque @ 5K and peak power at 6K
And I have the special taller geared box from Mike Bainbridge to compliment this engine.
Gulp..can I drive the thing?

3200cc stock 3.2 except for the geogeous horizontal fan, the 45mm PMO's and my own snazzy 'equal length, optimum primaries' headers....
I really am pleased with this result.
The last 4 weeks have been 'trying' you might say with the Lola and making people redundant at work, but this has cheared at lest me up no end.
Interestingly, Matthew at Bob's set the cams to 'torque' rather than power, and Bob's confidence to sort it has paid off.
All the pipes have the same exhaust temperature now and Bob says it sounds good and strong.
Considering all i found was an engine that was simply tired but spat and hissed through the carbs and crankcase, and all I've done is new rings, lapped the valves and a fresh gasket set...just goes to show what a bit of TLC can do.
I will have to adjust to this car now. Last year it was very 911; dump the clutch, floor the throttle and get on with it. This will be a bit different.
First race (you should see my class mates..) is at Loton Park on Bank hol monday ( www.hdlcc.com ) and the following weekend at Prescott.
I think the dreadded, but cannot be missed, Shelsley Walsh is after and then back to Loton....
My greatest challenge will be Barbon Manor in May, just a beautiful track and i once held the class record there!!
My class mates are a 700 bhp Ex Rally Cross Puma with an ex Champion driver, an Audi Quattro Pikes Peak lookalike with a godzillion bhp and a demon Millington engined Pilbeam MP42 which i almost bought as a roller 3 years ago.
I'm there for personal bests, but i feel swamped!

Collected the Lola from Bob's yesterday nice and early.
We started it up from cold and although not the same as my 911 hotrod with the injected 3.2 it starts with a throttle stab and away it went. No pops, bangs or f@rts of old, just nice steady tick-over. All 6 working!
The throttle response is electric and very deep 'lunged' iykwim.
Back in the garage it feels so good to have the thing as i originally wanted it at long long last.
While I was there, another customer arrived with a fab orange 911E 1968 on route to Cadwell for a race..driven to the race and drive back, on the road!
Fantastic. He was, of course, an ex hillclimber I knew from way back. It went on the rollers for a tweek.
Monday forecast is cool and overcast. Just right for hillclimbing.
Will be interesting.

Note the smooth curves and the flat torque across 3500 to 6000 rpm.
