My '72 911T
A few pictures of the motor at various stages of it's life in my hands:
First Curborough track day. Much amusement and a near vertical early 911 handling learning curve…
…as can be seen by this little moment which I love to say I caught and flicked round the molehill in one beautiful move.. but hey, I spun it.
The dreaded tin worm. Just a sample picture, don't want to X rate this site.
I'll just sort out that rust bubble on the rear quarter…suddenly a full strip down and bare metal respray was upon us. This was about 4 hours into the strip from a running complete car, just me, a mate, and some spanners, frightening really!!
After two months sitting on stands feeling sorry for itself it went off to Prospray just outside Manchester for a bit of TLC.
Then back to my garage to be put back together, this time in 2 weeks of evenings from a shell, as I was taking the wife away for the weekend and we HAD to go in the 911. Arrival of other new (human!) baby slowed the process…or I'd of done it in a week!
Later seats fitted as I need to be able to fit baby seats properly and they are much more comfortable!!
Aluminium arch liners fitted front and back to contain the rot. Several months and a lot of wet miles later a I dropped them out to have a look and it was bone dry and as clean as when I put it back together. Nice.
My first trip out with my 2 year old son. Quote ' Daddy car. Brum, Brum. Noise' Makes me proud…
Now the engine bay is all sorted:
...and the gearbox rebuilt:
We can get out on the road again for Summer 2005!!

I think all this 'doing it properly' stuff on DDK is starting to get to me...

Nice car - hope mine looks like that when finished (and hope I don't find any tin worm that bad either)!
Just one point on aluminium liners - don't want to scare everyone, but I was once told these would encourage rust in the surrounding steel areas.
I hope I'm wrong and that there is a subject matter expert out there who can clarify this...

Bit difficult to pay for, they don't take cards, but worth the hassle with your bank! £168 delivered for the set of four.
There will be no problems with ali liners next to steel, all the interfaces on the edges have a big rubber seal and I ensured the mounting brackets are sitting on a thick layer of underseal. I made the screw holes then took the liners out pumped waxoyl into each hole and recoated the area with underseal before refitting the liner.
They completely stop the mud and water getting up at the headlight bowls, front wings, A pillars, B pillars & rear quarters. They are a bit basic and require some tweaking to make fit nicely but after spending 2 months welding then paying a small fortune to have the car painted, not having them would stop me using the car in the wet. Can't have that as I use it all year.

Mine turned up within a week, depends on his stock levels I guess. I think payment on delivery was only for local orders rather than overseas, but give it a go! I had to arrange a bank transfer which cost £25 as the recipient was overseas...

Your car is awesome Gary but the best part of your car is that fact you have done so much to it yourself. I tip my hat to you, the car is beutiful and those arch liners are perversly nice.
I would hope to own a car that cool and that good one day.

One day I'll even get it back on the road (just in time for the snow...) after it failed it's ticket for worn rear ARB bushes. They were new It's the pins on the trailing arms, so a mate is machining some 'made to fit' bushes. Fingers crossed it will have a new ticket by this time next week.

Arch liners seem to me to be a really good idea.
All the Swedish made cars have them and they do not seem to rust despite the snow and presumably salt.
I am surprised everyone hasn't fitted them. As far as I can make out it is just Gary and Barry so far.
Is there some problem with them?
How many brackets/fittings are required per wheel?
I am about to order a set unless there is a downside I do not yet know about.
