Anyone recognise this car?

Post by Nick Moss »

This car has just come on to my radar, and I know it has been discussed somewhere but I can't find the thread. Can anyone with faster fingers/broadband/memory help?

Thanks John, but no, not the same car. It was owned by someone in Denmark, but was apparently built here in the UK. The arches are the distinctive feature that I remember

Nick

I remember that car too. It was for sale in the Midlands(?) along with another narrow bodied car by a well known seller. I damned if I can remember who it was. I seem to remember it had an engine based on a 2.4 possibly built up to 2.7. It took a long time to sell.

I might remember more after some red wine.

Regards
Mike

Got it!

It was owned by Carsten (That's why I thought there was a Danish connection  ) and discussed here. It seems Dave Dennet was involved so I will give him a call

Certain it's the one I looked over at Henrys at 911 Virgin. Needed quite a bit of work then...

If it's that one it was also featured in an issue of 911 World in an article comparing what you could get for similar money

If the Dave Dennet car, didn't that used to be a blue shell that was specially lightened, but had no proof of providence? I seem to remember Colin Belton suggesting to me years ago that the shell started out uber cheap to Dave, but then rocketed when there became a suggestion that it could be quite special...

Yes, that's the same car Ian.

I looked at the car (bare shell back then) ~ 10 years ago when it was advertised on Adtrader. It was extensively modified but all of my research drew a blank so I passed.

Dave Dennet bought the shell & turned it into a successful lightweight Sprint car (still blue at that stage) - he continued researching the car's history & believed it to have been modified by RUF but, as far as I'm aware, nothing was ever verified for certain.

Carsten bought the car from Dave & turned it into the wide-bodied version seen above. Dave Dennet continued working on the car for Carsten.

yep
thats the albert blue 'RUF' shell.

I almost had that when it originally went up for sale - £2500 totally as new with all the RUF esq mods -

Was a bit of an enigma at the time - a lot of work had gone into the shell
and it looked a bit special.

someone built it up and it was in 911&PW.
now its orange.

I still think, underneath - their is a RUF lightweight special trying to get out.
