Restoration of a RHD 2.2S

Hi Dave,

I would love to keep this car, but it will be up for sale upon completion.

We have managed to progress a little further on this 2.2S. The front end is mostly panelled up and gapped correctly.



I am also starting to find out some of the parts that I have been collecting along the way, such as correct tool kit and parts such as original spare bulb kit, and this original early badge (which needs a clean BTW) that I have had for ages. Glad it is finally being used.



Interior work this weekend, pics to follow.

Hi,
Maybe a bit to much detail? eg rebuilding the glove box today I thought the glove box lock surround and locking screw looked old.... so by the end of the day they were re-chromed!

It's that sort of thing that makes all the difference....

Do you have your own plating set up or do you outsource it all (quite a lot by the looks of it)?

It must be such a joy to do the final build with all that perfectly finished good-as-new parts. Except for the stress that you will scratch something I guess.

Our plating is not done on site, but as with all our suppliers over the years they have become friends and thus we get stuff done all the time.

The interior is now almost done. The headliner is finished and panelling starting to go in. All the panelling has been re-made and re-trimmed.

Hi,

The enigne and gear box are now almost finished.





The new fly-wheel, full new clutch etc were fitted today, now just waiting for the new ring gear to arrive tomorrow.



and the gear box has also been fully rebuilt (by MB Engineering). As taken from the car



now



all back in the car tomorrow.

Hi,

The recaro sport seats were finished today, fully re-trimmed with basket weave centres. Started as



and after a full strip down and re-trim.





The interior is now almost finished and considering it start like this, I think it looks a little better.

Manage to spend some time yesterday working on the car.

Glove box and dash now almost finished.



I think the only original item staying completely untouched is the key- remember the car did get hot, so I am leaving the key as a reminder. I love the way the Porsche script on the key survived.



We also had the rear seat straps made, to the correct thickness and also replicate the marks along the edges. We will be selling these soon.

The engine lid and parts are now finished, I think the number plates on this 2.2S are very Porsche orientated!

Now if that was my nyloc ... I would be looking for 1.5 threads sticking through.
..... seeing as I dislike excess weight ... I would be happy with flush.
But ...........

.. and if it's not tightened yet ..... next rule : never leave a joint like that unfinished , cause you'll forget about it someday.

Don't worry Cortina that is a work in progress pic, the end product uses a standard hex nut, Porsche did not use nylock on those bolts. Mick I will also put you down for a pair. Just remind me what year car as from 72 those straps are longer.

Hi,

I managed to spend some more time on detailing some parts. I think we may have beat the chroming of the glove box lock! Well we also did the nuts inside the ash try and the sun visor arms.



I am now starting to get ready to rebuild the MFI stacks





and up the front end we needed to find some RHD only parts, ie the fresh air fan housing and the steering cover. These are unique to RHD.
