Broken teeth

Post by butzsi »

Saw this when I removed the generator for testing(all working well), drive gear very worn and damaged, tooth missing from camshaft timing gear. Removed timing cover to check other gears and found a load of sludge on the bottom but no gear tooth! I used this opportunity to remove as much sludge/debris from the bottom of the crankcase as possible and will seriously consider fitting an aftermarket external oil filter housing. I will probably replace the camshaft and crankshaft gears + the genny drive gear only.

Many thanks to John Hearn and his contacts once again.

I have not been able to find any part of the (detached ) broken tooth, so I can only assume that it caused a lock-up - the timing case has clearly been removed in the past, as witnessed by the missing washers etc
