In car camcorders - advice please

Post by sjm »

Next week I'm taking my Land Rover off road for 2 days in Yorkshire. According to the update I got from the organiser today it's going to involve "mainly driving on rock and gravel, as well as some very steep ascents/ descents and at least one river crossing". Apart from packing some extra "brave pills" I'm wondering about mounting my camcorder on the dash/ from the roof to get some film of all this.

I know some of you guys are super techy on the camera-gear and may well have used kit in track days - so just wondering if someone can recommend something please?

Thanks in advance! 8)

It doesn't make it clear, but it has a threaded spindle that is standard size for cameras & video cameras etc.

If you fancied a new camera the GoPro stuff is getting pretty good now.
Waterproof too. Might be cheaper than trashing your best camera.

Thanks each - much appreciated!

James - we're camping in Garsdale on Friday evening, and then head off Saturday morning. We have abouyt 4 miles on raod, and then that's it - off in the wild!

I think the plan is to finish near Ripon on Sunday afternoon (if that sounds in the vicinity?)

That looks great! Just what I'm hoping for as well! Looking forward to some great views and a bit of "ging gang gooly"....

Love those G-Wagons too - my mother-in-law had one when they were new, back some years now!!! Great motors....

Enjoy LeMans....I'm sure you will...

I have an Archos media player. I bought a bullet cam to go with that for a few quid and works really well. Stereo too!

I can`t quite work out whether the spotted item on the cameraman is part of his harness(?) or a device to catch any by-products (if you know what I mean?).
I love the smell of burnt rubber and hydrocarbons in the morning, it smells of......victory.

How about this one then...

I'm off to Chamonix on Saturday and want to get a Go Pro helmet cam. I can't bring myself to buy one as they're $299 in the US (£186) but £299 here. That's just too much difference in my opinion.

The Kodak Playsport is a cheaper alternative. (~£100)
Nicely made, and waterproof too. The gadget show had to try VERY hard to kill one :)
