The entry fee is £125 per person An entrant wishing to form a team may send in a single car entry (£250) to reserve a place while a second car is found.

Acceptance priority will be given to confirmed two car teams, with a completed entry form received together with the full entry fee. Reserve entries may be taken to replace non-starters. The Organisers reserve the right to accept late entries or refuse entries without giving any reason. An entrant withdrawing before 1st March will receive a 75% refund. Entry fees are non-refundable after this date.

9. Objective:
The objective for the duration of the six hour test is to complete 240 laps at an average speed of 54 miles per hour (87kph). This includes car and driver changes.

10. The Control:
There will be a control situated in the pit lane. A car from each team must pass through the Control every hour on their start time minute. This is to record the maintenance of the teams average speed.

When the allotted number of laps for the hour have been completed, or an ‘in time’ is due, cars must come in. Cars arriving early will not be penalised, and should wait in their pit area or the paddock for their due out time. Do not obstruct the pit lane or wait at the control.

Any driver within the two car team lapping for less than 10 minutes per hour will have 5 laps removed from the teams hourly total.

11. Master Clock:
A large digital clock will be positioned viewable as cars pass the pits. The Master Clock will show endurance test time elapsed i.e. 00:00 at the Start of the event, and 06:00 at the Finish. Should there be a red flag incident, with all cars pulling into the pits, the Master Clock will be stopped, and re-started as soon as the circuit is re-opened. *Any time lost in the morning will be deducted from the one hour lunch stop. Any time lost in the afternoon will only be added on until 5pm.

12. Lap count:
Sensors in each car (supplied by the organisers), and a receiver positioned along the pit straight, will record the number of full laps each car / team completes. Note: an in ½ lap, i.e. when entering the pits, will not be recognised.

Co-drivers may record laps completed by recording the time on the Master Clock, on their team’s control card. This together with information from a teams pit crew will confirm laps remaining.

13. Pits safety and car signalling:
To allow for a Team Manager and Mechanic, a total of six restricted pit area passes will be issued to each team. No team personal under 14 years of age. Work on cars in the pits is restricted to the checking or replenishing of oil, coolant, brake fluid, and tyre pressures. Any repairs or the replacement of components such as brake pads or assemblies must be carried out in the paddock. Any member of the team may give information by signal board, i.e. the number of laps to be completed before entering the pits.

14. Lunch Break: *The one hour lunch break may be shortened if there are any red flag incidents in the morning. The Lakeside Diner will be open for meals and refreshments. Cars must remain in the pits or paddock for this period. No work may be carried out on cars. Both the pits and the paddock will be Parc Fermé for the duration of the lunch stop. Cars must then line up in order ready for the re-start.

15. Fuel :
Fuel will be available from the pump in the paddock. It is strictly forbidden to refuel any car from a container. Either in the pits or paddock area. Penalties/Team exclusion will result.

16. Responsibilities:
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
All motor sport is potentially dangerous. Even though the Six Hour 2010 is not a motor sporting competition, the test presents a serious and demanding challenge to those taking part and may be hazardous. Participants should not take part in this endurance test unless they accept that there is an element of risk to themselves and their car.

17. Insurance:
The Six Hour 2010 is an Endurance Test on a race circuit. RTA, Road Traffic Act, car insurance will not cover you while you are driving on the Mallory Park circuit. Both crew members of each car and team personal will be required to sign a declaration at Signing-on indemnifying the organisers from liability.

18. Circuit admission:
Sportscar enthusiasts are invited to bring along their own cars and watch the Six Hour 2010. Admission will be free to all Mallory Park spectator areas and the paddock. The pits area is restricted to team personal.

19. Postponement or Cancellation:
The organisers reserve the right to cancel or postpone the test or any part thereof should circumstances arise which make such action desirable or necessary. If the test is abandoned for this or any other reason, at any time, the organisers reserve the right to retain the entry fee to cover administrative costs incurred to that point.

20. Presentations:
As this six hour test is not a competition, awards will not be applicable. Recognition will be given to the most successful sportscar manufacturer, and team, 2010.

21. Officials:
Clerk of the Course: Peter Davis.
Secretary of the event: Carol Bury.

Hi all,

Just a heads up to let you know that the trusty 924S has been entered at the last minute for the Mallory Park 6 hours event.

http://www.guildofmotorendurance.co.uk

It makes a change from using an aircooled car like the 3.2 carrera racecar of my co-driver
Image
Image

here in my old SC
Image
Image

or the 930
Image

The endurance race works with a team of two cars and four drivers:
If you own a hand built sportscar you are invited to take part in a Six Hour Endurance
at Mallory Park circuit on 21st May. Each team representing a sportscar manufacturer.
Pit stops, car and driver changes, refuelling, 240 laps of the Mallory Park circuit in 6 hours.
Each two car team will consist of four drivers, a team manager and a mechanic. The focus
of activity will be on keeping the cars running at the required average speed for 324 miles.
The other team car is a 250bhp 944 turbo

Image
and my co-driver, who raced a 924 in the then lodge sports series, said:"why don't you enter your 924S instead of the 911?"

Well..... A bog standard, 150 bhp, guards red '86 jobby with 93000 miles on her, Full OPC service history (kerrrr ching!), all history in a neat file and cared for a lot in her life by the two owners (me included  ). I had a couple of wings changed and the front valance replaced, so I'm just waiting for the final polish to enjoy that big sunroof
Image

But.... life is too short, innit, so bugger it:
Rapidly this became rather well organised, with Ben (smallspeed) and Tim (impmad2000) as mechanics, a well equipped van with tools, generator, oils, potions, spanners, jacks and axle stands, spare wheels and god knows what, a gazebo for looking intimidating in the paddock  , two time keepers, a team manager, walkie talkies, strategist and as it seems, a few spectators as well!

I collected yesterday the 924S from Kirkman motor engineers and by jove, this is about as good as it is going to get considering I am entering this rather original, plain, two owner car for an endurance event in standard trim and on standard tyres.

I had Kirkmans do a 24000 mile service and retorque every nut and bolt and belt and driveshaft, packed/freed/greased the nuts of the suspension etc, changed the brakefluid changed to super blue and finally some fresh gearbox oil to boot and the geo was set.

Just to add some creativity, the bonnet cable is actually broken but he removed the plastic mechanism so at least we can open the bonnet by pulling the wire with a set of pliers.

To add insult to injury, via Uncle Keith the car is booked in for a 924 model series studio shoot for 911&Porsche world in Sevenoaks on Thursday the 27th. I'll do my best not to bend her!! 8)

Friends have asked what the situation is for spectating: I have had confirmation that access is free to Mallory Park and the paddock
, but the pits are for mechanics and team members only.

We are team 16, and Carlo and I start at 33 past the hour at 9:33am. There is a break of an hour (so for us after the third hour driving at 12:33) and we restart at 13:33.

For those regulation addicts, here are the final instructions:
Friday 21st May, 09:01: from the assembly area, car 1A moves forward and enters the ‘out’ control in the pit lane. As they are released onto the Mallory Park circuit they accelerate towards Gerard’s bend for the first of their team’s 480 laps.

1. Team identification: the first column of the entry list shows each teams number.
Excerpt from the Regulations: “Each crew/team will be responsible for supplying and fixing stick-on full size (23cm high) identification numbers to the bonnet and to the door position each side of the car. The car identification A & B to be half the size of the main number. Numbers must not be fitted until inside the circuit, and in place for scrutineering. Numbers must be removed at the finish of the event.”

2. Driver identification: Each driver will be issued with a coloured wrist band.

3. As you arrive: On arrival at Mallory Park, follow the signs to the circuit and use the entrance gate at the top of Shaw’s hairpin.

From the entrance gate, follow the circuit round to the paddock. All drivers and team personnel should locate the organisers’ office and sign on as soon as possible.

Access for vehicles to the paddock via the circuit will close at 8.30am. It will open for a short period at lunch time, and again when the event is over at about 4.45pm.

4. Signing on: Because this is a closed to club event, drivers will need to be members of the UKMSA Evesham Motor Club. If you haven’t already done so, drivers will need to pay the £5 membership fee. We would like to thank Evesham Motor Club for contributing £1000 towards the cost of running this years Six Hour.

If your completed commentator sheet has not been sent in, to avoid a delay, please complete it before entering the signing-on office.

Signing on will take place in the administration office at the bottom of the tower building. After each member of the team (4 drivers, team manager and mechanic/assistant) have signed on they will be fitted with their identification wrist bands. Only team personnel with wrist bands will have access to the pits enclosure.

Scrutineering cards will be given out when signing on is completed. Also two Guild of Motor Endurance Six Hour stickers which need to be attached to each side of the car prior to scrutineering.

The drivers of each team car will be handed their 1st hour Control Card when they’ve passed through scrutineering. Keeping Control Cards in good condition, and dry, is the responsibility of each team.

5. Scrutineering: Srutineering times are from 7:00–8:00am. Earlier starting numbers should make every effort to be scrutineered as early as possible. Please affix your team number to your car before taking it for scrutineering. The scrutineering bay is located by the fuel pumps at the Esses end of the paddock. All cars entering the scrutineering bay must be road legal (make sure your car has a current tax disc and mot). Also, that both drivers are in possession of a full driving licence. This is required by the Mallory Park circuit owners. The scrutineer will check seatbelts, internal and both exterior mirrors, fire extinguisher and the cover over the live battery terminal. Also that open cars have a full width rollover bar. Fixed camcorders are allowed in the cars. The security of camera mountings will be checked at scrutineering. If you have any queries regarding scrutineering ring Dave Boyles (UKMSA scrutineer), Also, your helmet will be checked, specification as per the regulations (and later up-date).

6. Reminder of Helmet specification in the Regulations: Helmet to any of the following standards: BS 6658-85 type A, BS 6658-85 type A/FR, SA2000, SA2005, Sfi 31.1A, SFI 31.2A. If borrowing a helmet for use on this test, check the fit.

The 6H 2008 regulations included helmet specifications (up to January 2010): BS 6658-85 type A, BS 6658-85 type A/FR. These were removed from the 2010 6H Regulations. We have now received confirmation that these helmets (if in perfect condition) will be acceptable for the 21 May Six Hour. (If you wish to check if your existing helmet is acceptable, please ring Dave Boyles (UKMSA scrutineer) tel: 07778 952825 - weekday evenings 7.00 - 9.00 pm or weekends only.)

7. Protective clothing: If flame resistant racing overalls (recommended) are not being worn, ordinary overalls should be worn to cover arms and legs. Do not wear anything made of nylon. Gloves must be worn. Eye protection in the form of a visor or goggles must be worn in open cars. It is advisable to remove false dentures and refrain from chewing gum.

8. Drivers’ briefing: The drivers’ briefing will take place in the pits at 8.15am. All drivers must attend.

9. Start assembly: By 8.45 all cars should be assembled in the pits assembly area and ready to move forward to the ‘Out’ Control on their start minute. The starting procedure will require all team cars with the letter ‘A’ to start first. Passing through the pits ‘out’ control and onto the circuit, followed in 17 minutes (number of teams) by the second team car ‘B’.

10. Control Card: A copy of the Control Card was sent out with Bulletin one. It’s an example of what it may look like at the end of an hour. For clarity the elapsed times used are 1minute 20seconds and driver changes about two minutes. The times that will be written into the columns by the co-driver as they pass the clock are only to record that the laps have been completed. The bold hi-lighted columns to the right and left are for Marshals use only. Marshals will be recording times as shown, in hours and full minutes. Co-driver recorded times have been shown as minutes and seconds. Note, the event master clock will be started at 09:01:00, and display 00:01:00 (00h.01m.00s). The event finishing at 06:01:00 (if no red flag delays, daytime 4.01pm) for car 1A. Don’t forget a cardboard type clipboard and an intercom.

11. Pit lane ‘in’ Control: Access to the pits and paddock will be via a coned entry at the Esses leading round to the inside of the Armco along the start/finish straight. The pit lane access finishes at the IN control next to the tower building. The two ‘IN control’ marshals will be dealing with over 130 recordings of incoming cars per hour. Please be patient if a few cars come in together. The marshals will only be recording your ‘in time’ on your control card, then releasing you into the pits. Important: do not forget to look at the clock from the pit lane to record the lap you have just completed (prior to handing in your Control Card). From passing the master clock on the pits straight to the pits ‘in’ control is taken a lap, i.e. an ‘in’ lap will not include the hairpin.

12. Driver changes: Once in the driver change section of the pit lane keep your speed to a walking pace to avoid being penalised. As soon as a car stops the engine must be switched off prior to both drivers exiting the car to change seats. Failure to comply will incur a team penalty. Because of this activity, and the possibility of a few driver changes taking place at the same time, this area is restricted to drivers and team managers only.
13. Pits ‘out’ Control: The ‘out’ control at the end of the driver change section of the pits has a left and a right hand lane. The left hand lane Marshall will be dealing solely with cars approaching from the driver change section. The right hand lane will be used for cars approaching from the pits waiting area, leaving at their allotted one minute intervals each hour.

14. Refuelling: Due to the fire risk involved with cars refuelling in the pits, or different parts of the paddock, cars must only refuel at the paddock petrol pumps. Both drivers must vacate the car and the engine be stopped throughout the refuelling period. Fire extinguishers will be positioned close to the pumps and the unleaded petrol pumps will be attended throughout the six hour event. Due to the time restrictions before the start, please arrive at the circuit with fuel in your car. Cars may enter the paddock at any time throughout the event to refuel. Except in the lunch break when it is Parc Fermé.

To accommodate the need for refuelling from the fuel pump in the paddock, without being delayed, i.e. paying for it by cash. Mallory Park have set up a fuel account for each car or team. Your credit/debit card needs to be shown to the Mallory Park official prior to the start of the event. No payment will be made at the time of refuelling. Fuel dispensed will only require a signature. Fuel will be charged to the account at the end of the day. No account, no fuel. Details at signing-on.

15. Signalling: Signalling to team cars by managers and team members will be possible through the fencing slots opposite the garages (having a signalling board with an arrow to bring cars in would be an advantage). If you are walking to and from the signalling walkway, take care as cars may increase their speed once they have passed through the pits OUT control. There will be a Mallory Park marshal controlling cars being released onto the circuit with red and green lights. Keep over to the right side of the line as you exit into Gerard’s bend.

16. On the circuit: The configuration of the circuit for the Six Hour 2010 will be announced at the start. Each driver when starting the event or taking over their first driving period should take every possible care and drive within their, and the cars’, capabilities. Cornering speeds and braking distances should be only gradually developed. Due to the widely differing speeds, acceleration, handling and braking capabilities of the sportscars taking part in this endurance test, extreme caution and care should be taken when overtaking and being overtaken. Make frequent use of rear view mirrors and be careful of the close proximity of other cars.

During the event a car alone may use the full width of the track. However, as soon as it is caught up by a car which is travelling faster, the driver must give the other car the right of way by pulling carefully to one side in order to allow the car to pass. Curves and bends, as well as their approaches and exits, may be negotiated by drivers in any way they wish, within the limits of the track. Overtaking may be done either on the right or the left. Manoeuvres liable to hinder other drivers such as unnecessary direction changes on the straight, crowding of cars towards the inside of the curve or any other abnormal change of direction, are strictly prohibited. Also any driver appearing not to be making adequate use of the car’s rear view mirrors or driving without due care and attention will be black flagged.

If a car spins on the circuit and recovers no action will be taken. If a car loses control and leaves the circuit and is not able to rejoin, the crew must wait until a marshal comes to them. Observers and Marshals will take what action is necessary to recover the car and it’s crew back to the paddock. The flag marshals will indicate to others on the circuit that they should reduce speed and respond to any flags they are being shown. If the pace car is dispatched onto the circuit, all cars must pull in behind the pace car until the recovery vehicle has removed the stranded car. If the incident is more serious and the Red flags are shown, cars must slow right down and be prepared to stop. Cars should continue slowly and then pull into the pits.

Cars should then proceed down the pit lane in the order they came in, and line up towards the ‘pits out control’. Please follow marshals instructions. As soon as the damaged vehicle has been safely removed from the circuit, and the green flags are shown, the master clock will be restarted. Then, all cars waiting in-line will be released from the ‘pits out control’ onto the circuit. For the duration of the red flagged period, while event time is stopped. No cars may be worked on, or refuelled. i.e. Parc Fermé. Also no driver changes while the clock is stopped.

17. Keep it safe: The onus is on each driver to drive within their own comfort zone. Remember this is most definitely not a race. Stewards will be observing driving standards and if after an initial warning no improvement is seen, the Team concerned will be penalised. If you are entered in a powerful car, whether you have experience on a motor racing circuit or not, make allowances for the speed differential of slower less powerful cars. The decision of the Clerk of the Course will be final. The organisers accept no responsibility whatsoever for any accident or injury befalling competitors.

18. Flag signals: Mallory Park circuit marshals around the track will convey signals to drivers with the following flags. It is important that their meanings are known by all drivers.

Blue flag - Stationary: Another car is following close behind.

Blue flag - Waved: Another car is trying to overtake.

White flag: A service car or slow moving car is on the circuit.

Yellow flag - Stationary: Danger, slow down sufficiently to ensure that full control of the vehicle can be retained. No overtaking.

Yellow flag - Waved: Great danger. Slow down considerably. Be prepared to suddenly change from the projected line, or take other evasive action including stopping if necessary. No overtaking.

Yellow flag with Red Stripes - Stationary: Slippery surface ahead.

Yellow flag with Red Stripes - Waved: Slippery surface imminent.

Green flag: All clear at the end of the danger area controlled by the yellow flags.

Red flag: Immediately cease driving at high speed and proceed slowly, without overtaking and with maximum caution, to the paddock, obeying marshals’ instructions and being prepared to stop should the track be blocked.

Black flag displayed with White number: The driver of the numbered car must stop at the pits control within one lap of receiving the signal and report to the Clerk of the Course.

19. Team information:
Displayed manufacturer names will identify the position of each team in the assembly area. Teams may erect car width type gazebos if needed for team personal. Please avoid closing off the view of cars from the paddock.

Just a reminder that the Mallory Park Diner will be open all day to keep you going in the pits with tea and coffee. They will also be serving breakfasts in the morning and lunches mid-day.

We have a good selection of sportscars entered, 17 two car teams representing manufacturers. In a weeks time team managers will be lining up their cars in the assembly area in preparation for the start.
Many thanks to Tim and Ben and the whole of DDK for making this so much fun already!

Clearly, we will convene afterwards for some drinks to celebrate whatever outcome!

Best regards,

The 944 Turbo finished.
The 924 did its valiant best, but died trying ! 3 hours in, it came into the paddock with a bit of a knock from the a Big end !
It was a good day though. :)
