Sport Classic 911

Post by Ferry Man »

I had my first sight of the new limited edition 997 today.
I'll admit I like the 997 anyway and the Sport Classic is a great homage to the early cars. I looked around the car, sat in it and took in all the details. And I think it's wonderful.

The owner was a great guy, very patient with his time and delighted to show off his car. He'd picked the car up from the factory and driven it home. A great first drive. 8)

The double-bubble roof is hardly noticeable but aside from that most of the design works well.
The stripes are stickers (as so many of the great Porsche's have  ) and do look good - the colours are cool.

I saw one on the production line Paul when having the factory tour and liked it there too.

Was a nice change from all the silver, grey and black!

Wasn't as nice as the 997 Cup on the same line admittedly.... 8)

Of the 250 worldwide, I think this car is one of about 30 RHD UK cars.
Not sure how well it will hold it's money though.... :?:
But this car wasn't bought for investment but for driving. The owner is planning to track it after putting some running-in miles on it. Well done, I say. :salute:

Now that would make for a nice investment potential.
I'll just check with Vic what a car without a heater is like on a winters day.

It was weird because every car had only one person working on it in each bay as it passed along the line.....but the Cup car had about 10 Motorsport guys climbing all over it as it moved along!

Was quite amusing

These Sport Classics are silly money as you say and will depreciate even sillier I'm guessing

Knowing for the past 26 years the chap who bought #127 I can tell you that none of his cars have been bought with investment in mind, only passion for the marque.

He has owned a Porsche in all of the time I have known him and is a long term owner of a superb 356 cab.

Who knows where values lie in the future? One thing's for sure, with only 30 UK cars you are pretty much guaranteed exclusivity and that, to many, is something they are prepared to pay for!

I think Paul would agree that, as good has his photos are, the car in the metal is stunning. 8)

As Ferris Bueller once said "If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up...."

But, of course, you can't! They are all sold out!

I was lucky enough to see one of these in the metal at a recent visit to Porsche Liepzig (where I got an hour on track spanking the new Gen II 997 Turbo....amazing, and a whole different story when I get time to put the pics up!)

But back to the Sport Classic - I think it looked superb and so much better than the photos I\d seen in magazines. A great looking car...

Nice to see someone who brought one using it, I bet a large proprtion fo the 250 made will go into private collections and collect dust. Looks really nice.
