I bought some dual 'filament' (read 'function') rear LED lights for my Type 2 VW camper. Can't remember if the 356 bulbs are the same (two, offset lugs on the base of the bulb for both brake & side light in one bulb)
However, my van (as does the 356) relies on the reflector dish behind the bulb to make it bright & full.
Since the LEDs only shine straight out the back of the bulb (unlike the regular, 'bulb' bulb ), they don't shine in the reflecting dish and, despite the brightness of the LED lights, they weren't as bright or 'full' as the standard bulbs.
I'm sure that could have been explained better but, unfortunately, not by me
Bought mine from ebay BTW like THIS
Actually, this one I've just linked to has LEDs on the side so might do what I'm saying they don't

Makes perfect sense.. there must be an answer for this problem.3ftDeep wrote:I bought some dual 'filament' (read 'function') rear LED lights for my Type 2 VW camper. Can't remember if the 356 bulbs are the same (two, offset lugs on the base of the bulb for both brake & side light in one bulb)

I remembered I'd seen something on the 356 Registry site on this subject.
