Greetings and question number 1 (of many I'm sure.....)

Post by mrk »

Hi everyone - just (Christmas Eve)bought a late 1973 registered (tho' 74 model 2.7 S) made to look all pretty like a 73 2.7RS.....got to say I'm thrilled, and seems okay for a first stab at the subject! Sold my beautiful old girl, a '69 Stingray Roadster (gotta love the curves and chrome) in the late summer having been hankering for an old Porsche for sometime....gave in and took the plunge.

This seems like a great place to 'hang out' and pick everyone's brains when google let's me down....and my first question is how do I get hold of original (or re-print) owners manual, service book etc easily? Am I at the mercy of ebay for such ephemera?

Many more questions coming once I start driving it I'm sure......

Thanks!

Hi and a big welcome to DDK. and Porsche ownership.

in answer to your first Question= Manuals/handbooks have been reprinted and are available via your local Porsche dealer either official or a indi. you might have to order it but they usually come through within days.

Service books= i think i have only once seen an early Porsche with a proper "service book" most cars just come with a folder full of service and repair receipts.

Hi there,

Manual should be still available from the official Porsche dealer, service book no longer due to a lot of "reworking" the history of cars....

Thanks for the warm welcome and prompt help! :) Top Job!

As for photos of my car - don't have any yet - it's in storage at work over the Christmas break.....when I go back in the New Year I've got to take 6 and email them to my insurance co for the agreed valuation malarky....I'll post some up then (if they're good enough - having trawled thru some of the pics on the site I feel like I'll have to employ Lord Lichfield / David Bailey to take mine just to fit in!! Some great snaps of some terrific rides).

Question no. 2 - anyone used any of the Porsche specialists in Nottingham(ish)....and if so who's best in your experience please (just for getting the old girl serviced / checked over initially before I start hitting the road good and hard.....want an honest straight player that knows what's what and won't take the michael out of poor hardworking folk like myself  )

Thanks all!

I tend to do most maintainance myself, but when the job is beyond me I have used Adrian at AMB Porsche. He did some extensive insurance work last year for me, which I was pleased with. He isn't necessarily a specific early car specialist, but is a good general engineer, and you will see a variety of Porsche models in the workshop. However, he did have an extremely nice early SWB car of his own in the garage. Don't know what his rates are now, and he moved to new premises on Meadow Lane, Nottingham. last year.
With regard to the MFI, following many reccomendations on here, I am going to get Bob Watson to look at mine in the New Year with a view to setting up it up as good as poss or at least being advised what needs refurbing/replacing.
And don't forget to try Main Dealer for comparativre price quotes on parts. HTH.

Thanks for your feedback, that's great! First job is to ring around your recommendations for a chat and then to get the old girl booked in for a thorough 'going over' and service before she get's spanked on the road...... 8)

I have used Zentrum for several of my cars but, i found from experience that while i would happily use them for anything younger than 1980's they are not so good on the early cars. besides now they have moved north out of Nottingham they are not so easy for me to get to.

several from the east Midlands use Chris Sargent-GCR Central Ltd who is based in wigston, Leicester tel 01162 780900
although i have never used him myself i have heard nothing but good things about him.
