upcoming modifications

Post by shambly »

I'm currently sourcing parts for changes I plan to make to my car whilst putting in the new 2270cc Type 4 engine due in a month or so time.

Gauge wise i'm adding 2" dual CHT, dual EGT, oil temp/pressure, and air/fuel mix in individual pods under the dash to keep a check on the health of my new engine investment.

A BAS Type-4 in Type-1 "road racing" exhaust will hopefully make long journeys slightly more peaceful than the Chesil s/st system I currently use (and that won't fit the Type 4).

Styling wise, I'm adding tan bonnet straps and a through-bonnet filler to progress the 'outlaw style' look further. Oh, and a much needed hood cover for the softtop when down.

Anyone have any further (polite :D please) suggestions?
And does anyone know where the more 'correct' location for the through bonnet filler is? (car currently has a VW tank mounted quite far forward)

Car currently looks like this:

Simon

Hi Shambly

What gearbox are you using? I destroyed my stock VW gearbox within three months and I was only getting 125bhp from my engine.

I had one built by Cogbox that has been fantastic since then.

Derek, I have a Cogbox built unit, with a 3.44 final drive. Hopefully, this will be up to the task...

Not a great shot but shows the idea.

Neil Melliard of Pro Sign did them, he should be doing something a bit different on my B.

Obviously no need to copy the design but hopefully gives you an idea.

Here's another shot of the front of Jez Hoye's Speedster:

How about some about some Nerf bars & Fuchs ?

I love this shot/location:

As for 'through the bonnet' filler locations, these shots might help:

Cheers Andy,

Good shots of filler locations though don't like the flip-top style cap much at the end. I have to do this.

Quite like the nerf bars idea, but have too much invested in wide-5 to move down the fuchs path. Great photo too :D

I reckon the car looks great, so I'd say little tweaks, and know when to stop (like any piece of art)

I think a set of speedster buckets would look the part

Exhaust has arrived at last

Post by shambly »

Parts are slowly arriving ready for a busy winter....

My RAT type IV is built and ready to go on the dyno once Jake returns from vacation in a weeks time. :P

The BAS exhaust turned up today and what a beast it is.

I'm starting to wonder what I've started

Nice exhaust, you will llove the sound of it it growls  , I used to have one in my bug some years back, hope you will get it treated if its not stainless, cos it will rapidly go downhill.
Looking forward to the finished result.
