911S Values
PLEASE excuse my ignorance
Im just trying to get a better handle on 911 "S" values.
Why is this one below so cheap?
Is it because it is a 2.7 impact bumper "S", and only the pre impact bumper ones go for 20 - 50k?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT
Ive been looking for a 911 (or 912) for the last few months (ive allready got a 356 and had an '79 SC last year too =), so just trying to understand the values and buy appropriatly (so i also get a good investment =))

a pre-impact bumper S is a TOTALLY different car to an impact bumper S , which is why one can cost you up to £70K and the other can be got for peanuts
pre-impact bumper S's were the top of the Porsche line up ( until the '73 RS came about ) & are real screamers ... great hooligan cars as you need to rev them to get the power They have real character & are very quick .. a lot stay in long term ownership as they get under your skin.
An impact bumper S was a relatively mundane 911 .... the model to have in '74 was the 2.7 RS engined Carrera & for one of those you'll need to pay a penny or two

ahhhh, ok that was kinda what i was thinking, but im glad to hear it from somebody else! I think the "s" are a little out my price range, but i plan on imporating something this year (either states or south africa) so im just doing some research in the meantime (unless i see a bargain in which case i'll bag it!)!

ha ha - YES! thats in my price range, i reckon i could buy one in every possiable colour too lol!
My price range for a for a 911 is about 10k (I prefer either a pre79, or 87-89),
i realise that basically gets me a 2.7 or a ropy 2.4 or earlier, still i love the chrome around the windows, so i'll keep my eye open for a good one as thats the look i want. If I can find a good G50 based 3.2 then i might take that, but i really love the chrome, so hopefully after enough waiting i'll get the one im after =)

There was a 911SC for sale not long ago that had a retro chrome look done to it:Strictly wrote:...still i love the chrome around the windows, so i'll keep my eye open for a good one as thats the look i want. Unfortunately you're a little late as it's already sold, but I'm sure you could do the same to a 3.2 Carrera - speak with Nick Moss (http://www.early911.co.uk/html/backdate.html) who offers a backdate service for them, maybe you could just get the chrome parts from or done by him.Strictly wrote:hmmm indeed - gorgeous colour too, where did you see that?

What richi said re: the window surrounds. The 911S 1974-1975 "should" off the factory come with bright anodised details. (what you called "chrome").
The black anodising, that beautifully weathers into a gunmetal shine, was standard on the Carrera (Carrera 2.7 or Carrera 3.o). You could order your carrera with the bright anodised option though.
So if you are looking for the bright option, you are usually good with the 911S.
There is a lot of info on the dedicated impact bumper forum: http://www.impactbumpers.com
I posted somewhere the comparison between the 1975 911S with 175 bhp and the 1976 model 911 with 165 bhp. The latter was galvanised and ,... faster. (Although Glenn75S will try to feed me a sock)

ahh very usefull, i didnt know that about the carrera 3.0, i'll stop looking lol!
Apologies to take up so much space talking about impact bumpers, originally i was just trying to get a handle on values, but at the end of the day im screaming for a 911 to drive while i get my 356C together, i love those early S ones, but realistically its got to be a 2.7S for me for now (altough that was interesting about the 1976 car being faster) unless i get lucky with a pre 73, so yah never know
I'm keeping my eyes peeled, ive seen a gorgeous 912 that has the look im after but i think im going to kick myself if I dont wait for a 911 at the right price/condition to come up (oh and if i beat the other 100 people trying to buy it - lol)

I know which is why i would prefer a 3.0 carrera, but for what you lose in power (for the 2.7) you get in looks - those chrome windows, and orginally chrome rather than backdated...and i can always upgrade the engine =)
I might still get a Pre - impact bumper yet, im not giving up - im going to stretch my price bracket to 12,500k (See ya later first time house (houses are boring anyway)), ive seen quite a few over the last months in that bracket, so who knows maybe I can even join this section of the forum rightly so!
More importantly i just need to stop myself from buying this 912E, just because i absolutely LOVE the colour combo - talk about a step down in power (80 Bhp!)!
Got the look though! Im totally stuck by the colours, but i really musn't buy this for various reasons (such as NOT A 911, vw engine, 200,000 miles on it, no history, not a future classic, over priced, the list goes on, but lovely looking 912 =/!

And as we are on the subject of possiable purchases. What is this 1969 911E worth roughly....
