Last time I spoke to the factory about this (just before they sold all the parts to Bruce Canepa - who, from what I understand is selling them with a SERIOUS markup ) a side - two wings and a sill - was £54,000 in primer - no, that's not a typo.

RUF in Weybridge did the work on my old red 959 when a certain golfer's wife went at it with a nine iron after he was caught going at his mistress  so it's not just the factory who will touch them but the compsite aramid technology is out of date and seriously specialist.

Tragic really as they are special old girls and their kind will never be made again. Not worth a penny more than £30k and that's really for the engine to be made up as a spare for a 962

Personally I thought 70k was a laugh, can't you buy a reasonable one for around or even just under 100k :?: :?:

Mind you 54k for a NOS wing and sill is an even bigger laugh!!!

Rolled 959

Post by Gmund Cars »

This must be the car that was rolled over twice in a field just up the road from our delaership (Gmund Cars), I can't believe that the car is still doing the rounds in this condition as I'm sure that the accident in 2005 ! It was a surreal phone call that came in from the cars owner to say that he had had "a little bump", when I drove up the road all I could see was the car about 30 metres into a field lay on it's roof ! The owner and potential customer had crawled out the drivers window and were sat having a cup of tea (!) in the General Tarleton Pub (GT) about half a mile from the crash ! A picture of the car upside down in the field even made the local paper ! The car's body srtucture was badly damaged, the metal door frames seem to hold the roof from crushing flat (the roof and other bodywork is made from Kevlar - which when you have 1740 kg's of ca on it deforms badly). The car basically took off nose first into a field which had a 10ft drop straight away, the car dug in nose first and the tail went over the front (twice). Both occupants were totally unscathed, one of them hangs around DDK - he owns a 911, so maybe he can re-call the day.

959 Crash

Post by Gmund Cars »

James, yes it was on the "S" bends heading towards Minskip from the Knaresborough (GT) direction, unfortunatley the owner/driver took off and got air-bourne after the first "hump" and when he landed he had over-corrected so did a few "tank-slaps" before strightening the car up just in time to exit the road in the direction of the field, it was the 10ft drop into the field that really caught him out. I have some amazing pictures somewhere of the car in the field, it looked so strange - as it was a good 30 to 40 metres from the road, it almost looked like the car had been dropped there from the sky. As I said before, thank goodness both driver and passanger were unscathed, the worst problem of the day was from other drivers looking in amazement at the car upside down.

I was up at Fearnsport when they were working on one. We were on-line looking at the Porsche parts prices. They were all astronomical. I recall 30k for a rear valance!

That's just never going to get sold!

As Phil said, it's sad really - it'll probably never get driven again.

Great post though - it's all coming out of the woodwork, driven out with an angry six iron!!
