Salute to the 2.4T
I've been thinking for some time what a nice engine the 2.4T is to drive. It's so tractable it pulls cleanly in fifth from 40 right up to top speed.
I'm not sure how the gearing in the 915 'box differs from my 901/914 'box, but I drive everywhere in 5th.
Give me a deep-chested 2 valves-per cylinder engine any day.

Re: Salute to the 2.4T
Why? I rarely get out of 2nd and 3rd, comes on cam at 4200 and sings to the redline, especially under a long tunnel the one at goodwood comes to mind! 5th is fine for M ways when the family are in the car.... sure it pulls but then in a dim light so can Ifourteener wrote:but I drive everywhere in 5th.
former owner, still hoping to be reunited with my STOLEN 1972 911T/E 2.4 . Keep looking guys

Maybe I'm lazy -what I mean is it's such a flexible torque-y engine that there's rarely the need to knock it down a few cogs. Plus I love the gruff baritone throb right around 2500rpm.
Out of interest what kind of revs do you pull on the M-way? For example 5k@100mph?
btw, Your car looked at Duxford...I wish I'd taken a decent pic

can't say I've really studied it, I seem to remember when approaching such 'ludicrously' high speeds (on the continent and where safe and legal to do so Officer) 90 - 100 will give approx 4700 - 5000rpm, though i know my speedo's out 'cause tom tom says so, by about 5mph apparently.

3K is 80mph in 5th, I have a feeling my 5th is longer than average!
is that on teh speedo or GPS ?
My speedo is really inaccurate .... for example it reads 100mph when I'm actually doing 80mph (GPS).

I have a feeling my 5th is very short. It seems very quick from 60 -110 (gps) but it sounds like that's near the red line. (at such speeds in a 37 year old car, my eyes don't linger on the speed/tach)Gary71 wrote:2.4T. It's the engine of choice ...3K is 80mph in 5th, I have a feeling my 5th is longer than average!
Hi All
Maybe this post should be in Past Events or 911, but all this talk of the humble 2.4t has got me to but pen to paper or finger to keyboard.
Well I've just got my "t" (Charlie) back from a 12,000 mile service
(+ much TLC to engine, distrib. carbs and well, the whole of the car really) at Andy Prills and what a transformation, the car always felt tourquey but not realy fast, now it feels truly fast this is no doubt down to the work that Andy and Adam put into the tuning engine (Again thanks guys!) so if your "T"s not all it should be now (to para phrase The Who) a tune up never hurts, but you all probable new that before I started!
Anyway I spent the weekend driving round the M25 to Brooklands Italian Car Day (Sorry, just can't stop looking at old Alfas) then cross country to Duxford to see a few DDK'ers (nice to put a few faces/cars to names) a great time was had by all, Loved Helen's 356 coupe (the Police cars nice as well). A weekend of driving (used as a shopping car on Monday as well) just proves what an all round useable car the "T" is.
All the best
Ian F.
PS. just can't say enough nice things about Andy Prills work and the way he approaches it, big thanks Andy.
