Somewhere to have webers re-built?
I need to get my webers rebuilt (big spindle wear and some stuck jets etc).
anyone know of a good place to go?
Looks like www.jrs.uk.com are the best from the site, but I can't get hold of Mike there, but I like the sound of his operation (old skool engineering)
Are there any others anyone can suggest please?

a friend of mine used a retired guy somewhere to rebuild his carbs last year.. I dont have any more detial than that (useless eh?!..) but I will be seeing him tonight and will get the contact info from him..
He posted his carbs to the guy who completely stripped and rebuilt them, reset them to "stock" settings and sent them back. I think the cost was something ridiculous like £20 a carb and they looked and performed like brand new..
The guy used to build carbs for a living and has taken it on as a hobby in his retirement to top up the pension. knows his stuff and did a great job. Think the turn around was about 10 days

be careful.
although others had carbs come back realy good, i did the same with a retired guy in italy after hearing good stuff and great pricing and they came back awful - worse than they went off.
rusty idle jet bolts that he had hand machined (replacing my nearly new original porsche bolts) dropping rust into the valves and the float chambers came back full of crap. rusty old springs. it was disgraceful. fuel leaking from everywhere.

i rebuilt and cleaned them myself last week after his rebuild with compressed air and cleaning solution. its quite simple. all the parts can be got from a weber rebuild kit available all over the place and some specialist springs and bits from larry at oil analysis for pennies. it doesnt take too long and is fun to do if you're that way inclined.

JRS have stopped doing them, but spoke to Northampton Motor Sport
Who can do them. apparently, good rebuild kits are hard to get!
a bit more internet searching comes up with www.youroil.net and a great looking site in the USA (where else?)
Spindle bushes, $4 each and a comprehensive kit with O rings etc $100.
I think I will do mine myself, but will look at the spidles first to see if they are worn as well as the bushes. Have been kindly loaned a full set of webers for the car if I get stuck.
I now need a set of air stacks and the fuel banjo's and bolts unless the new modern ones fit(?) off 45 DCOE's etc.
A trip to Aldon automotive i think on sat.
Please post any other info

In case it helps. Rebuilding webers is pretty straight forward with regards to rebuild kits, It is the machining work they may require which is a bit harder. We are doing as few sets at the moment and working on two approaches. The main issues with these carbs is wear in the spindle area. Webers use a few different approaches but basically the bushes can wear and/or the spindles.
We are having some over sized "brand new" spindles made ,with the idea that the spindle ID?bush is overbored and then new spindles fitted. Weber used to sell oversized spindles for exactly this job! This approach will continue the original weber set up, ie bushes at either end. On a pair of 40 IDS we are doing we are machining the original spindles then machining the carbs to take all new undersized bushes across the whole carb.

Pleasent surprise tonight in the garage.
Very close look at my webers and the re-build kit that came with them.
Kit is a real Porsche item (full of parts, inc shaft 'bearings' and the spindles are actually quite good!
I need the fuel banjos complete though.
Anyone got some spare?
