Picking up a 911T at the weekend
Very excited, involves a 400 mile drive home, any recommendations?

Hi
check the engine oil level, you do it with the motor running and preferably hot, check your tyre pressures, try 24psi fronts and say 32psi rear , make sure your screen washers work and it has fluid in the bottle and maybe a spare fan belt and give the seller a call to see if it has a tool kit and at least a jack and wheel brace oh and a spare with tread and air! Enjoy the drive safe in the knowledge you have covered the basics.

I recommend plugging in a few phone numbers to your mobile from the members list on here which track your journey home. Nothing like a friendly face if you get into trouble. You can stick mine in for the first section, and I would say Mike Bainbridge for the next section. Thereafter I don't know your route.
A 1960's/70's 911 has a racing bred engine built for longevity under hard conditions. I feel happier taking mine on a long trip than my modern car which has electric gremlins to worry about.

Ah, you bought the green T in Scotland? Fantastic news, what route are you taking?
Here are a few handy tips:
-Rain X on the outer windshield
-a session with anti fog wipes on the inside of the front windshield and side windows.
-Check whether you know how to operate the heating (ask brendan ) and whether it works.
-Your car will wake up after a good drive and will only get better the moments it is really warm. (I call it the magic 50 miles- suddenly the sound of the exhaust changes and away you go)
-Take it easy. 911 can be a bit "sniffing the camber" or sensible to side winds. They are very responsive cars, so your sensation is heightened if you are used to modern cars. Don't be afraid*, just let it be and give yourself some time to dial yourself in.
*Unless one of your wheels suddenly overtakes you.
-I find they run better on 95 unleaded, with the 99 and other optimaxes you have a better combustion but the " cam effect" is a bit gone.
-make sure you have something warm like a blanket or so in the car should you break down
-enough battery power in your phone/ipod? The cigar plug might not work.
-Is the battery in good condition, so it will be able to start the car en-route?
-Breakdown cover with membership details at hand.
-Take a porsche magazine with you like 911&porsche world or the Porsche post. They carry a host of adverts for indenpendant specialists throughout the UK. Handy if you suddenly need to find a coil in Leicester.
-Print a handy list of DDK members phone numbers. Tea and sympathy in Nottingham, j25 M1 here.

Youre such a nice bunch of people
Unfortunatly the big day has been postponed until early next week, I will spare the gory detail but I had a run in with airport security on sunday
I blame my upbring -living in a tiny island principality fiercly independant but oppresed.
My earliest memory of my grandfather was in the early 70s', he was waving his walking stick at customs officials complaining that they were treating people like cattle

Do'h! They security people checked my shoes at the airport in Guernsey last week in case they were hiding anything other than my feet yet they weren't bothered in Birmingham. All the best for early next week then.
