Anyone know anything about the S for sale at Douglas Valley?

Post by Grindon »

Hi guys n' gals,

Does anyone know anything about this car?

http://www.douglasvalley.co.uk/item.asp ... =34&pgid=1

They seem to have had it for a while as I think I saw it up for £17k some time ago. I just wondered what the story was?

Cheers,

Kevin

yes I was wondering about that one too ... Im assuming the early 911 scene in the UK must be small enough that most cars are 'known', or is that not the case ? (Im new to the 'early' scene ...)

seems like a bargain, if youre after a non matching stolen recovered 911.

Is it just me or is £15K for a RHD rolling shell with the wrong wheels expensive even if it is an S? Then again if you spend £1K on some fuchs's and £4K on a 3.2 carrera engine (see for sale forum at the minute) and have it fitted you should have an interesting machine that would/should beat a genuine 2.2S. But the million dollar question is "Is this what you really want?" Spending more on an engine will get you a 2.2S which is correct but again, is this what you want?

I love my car which is not original (wrong colour/engine/bulkhead conversion etc) but it is rust free, RHD and goes like stink with 160bhp. I can do whatever modifications to it I want as it isn't historically important. I can and do take it out in the rain and it doesn't bother me. It suits my requirements but when I consider replacing it in the future, it will probably be for a more original car. See the thread by Jamie in vehicles for sale re him selling his car as it is too nice to use for the other side of the coin.

If I remember correctly, Transend (www.transend.co.uk) sold an aparently rust free 1965 LHD 912 rolling shell at the start of this year for around £5K that needed an engine, gearbox and seats. Much better value IMO if you can do LHD.

So to sum up: What do you want? A modified 'hot rod' or a numbers matching original?

Just my tuppence.

seams steep to me. Their first car they sold a 911 T sold for fair money but since then they have pushed up the price of the salvage to silly money. Like most salavage places. I guess if some one is stupid enough to buy it I guess they keep rasing the price bar.

Check out the F40  what a shame

yeah - I saw that - although a 250k car rarely goes to a breakers, surely. Gotta be cheaper to fix it up? - perhaps it was a replica?

Using my years of experience here, I can see a problem with the final stages of this project: same make, same style, same colour: all good so far.

Just one thing, two fronts ... lots of headlights, no engine  .

In the same way, that marriage of Beetle front and Minor rear was always doomed to fail .... .
