Voltage Regulator

Post by john matthews »

I think I need a new Voltage regulator , but they're not cheap are they ?

GSF don't have 'em , Euro I think do , listed as :

VOLTAGE REGULATOR 55A MARCHAL £68.53 inc VAT & P&P ( £49.82 without )

Does that sound the right bit / price ?

perhaps I should try the scrappy first in case it's not the reg.

Can I use a later one ? Can I fit a modern alternator with a reg on it ?

Bloody hell the scrappy wants £47.50 ! I suppose at least I can try it , see if it fixes my problem and not take it if it doesn't

Got no idea if the 912 and 911 share the same voltage regulator but Dave Hillman's site may help if you want to check out your current regulator against his pics etc...

£20 for mine at my local car spares, just matched the numbers up and it turned out to fit countless other vehicles tho it is a 912E.

£47.50 for secondhand sounds steep to me, surely its not a 912 specific item.

The replacement voltage regulators that most outlets sell now are 'solid-state' electronic units as opposed to the original 'electro-mechanical' type.

Type 911 have them:

911 1972-74 SEV/Marchal external £28-00

Thanks guys , I'll try the second hand part from Douglas Valley Breakers and if it looks like that modern part and fixes the problem I'll get a new one from type911.

Cheers !
