Yeller's re-patriated

Post by abash914 »

To all those who witnessed the sad events on foreign soil a couple of weeks ago.... Yeller was brought back (in a covered, hydro-electric everything) transporter yesterday and now sits back in the Home County - being rained on....
Tests start next week, will update.

Hi Andrew, I can't remember what the problem was now, is this the time for that engine rebuild you were planning or is it something else that's gone wrong?
Cheers

Swissair, Jon...
Unforeseen probs, on reflection they were bound to happen as the motor's the only thing we haven't touched since tasking Yeller over. We had no fuel going to RH Carb, but when we fittedn a new coil, she started and ran for a while.... Main problem I think was the fact we were roadside and had at least four heads into then engine bay. Now we have chance of doing a proper, logical run of tests - once we've cleared the water out of the cabin.....

no fuel to one carb, have you melted a piston (s) then?

Shouldn't think a melted piston would stop petrol getting to one carb, it would stop it being drawn into the cylinder, but would try to run on the other 3. As Andrew says, it will probably be a lot simpler to solve without 4 heads in the engine cover, and without the pressure by the roadside.

Was fuel not getting to one side before the failure or after or is that the failure. Perhaps I'm not upto speed with the problem here, but a lean or blocked carb that is not delivering fuel to one bank of cylinders could quite easily melt a piston.

Altho' when we first stopped by the road there was no fuel being delivered to the RH Carb, whether because there was a bloackage, or as lack of pressure because the pump seemed to be struggling to keep up, this was not the only problem.
Having established a feed to both carbs, we only managed to get the engine going again once we fitted a new coil. Whether therefore it was fuel, ignition, a mixture of both, is not clear. What we'll now do is a logical step-by-step run through of tests on the engine to see what we're dealing with rather than hypothesise as to what might have led us to where we are.
By doing it that way we should understand better what's resulted from the circumstances we sufferred in Switzerland.

I reckon the paint colour's got something to do with engine failures Andrew..... :( :( :(

Sorry to hear about your problems, still not got my Yeller wonder back on the road after HER "heart attack"
