Yeh, looks good.

How did you do it? rub the wood down and seal it with what? and paint the metal with what?

started by degreasing steering wheel then sanded back with 320 grade paper dry.
primed metal with etch primer allowed to tack off and primed with acrylic primer.
once thouroughly dry sanded again with 500 dry degreased tacked dust off and painted with simoniz satin black aerosol.
wood outer groove was cleaned up with a hacksaw blade to get a sharp edge.
degeased tacked off and laquered with high solid lechler dryed then sanded with 1000 paper wet laquered again this process was repeated till all imperfections were removed.
once dry flatted back with 1500 paper wet and polished with farecla g3
longwinded process but i think worth it .
ps if trying this it goes without saying wear an appropriate dust or paint mask.

on the wheel is a join running on the outside edge i presume this is made in two parts to sandwich the metal frame plus the ebony ring

Oh, Okay. I`ve recently refurbed my wheel and it doesn`t have a groove.

Looking at your photos I see there seems to be a white ( reflecting ) ring round the outside, is that it

Is the farecia a rubbing compound ?
