Seeing the thread on 911 toolkits I was wondering what tools and spares most of you guys carry ?

I've been popping my old snap on box of kit, which covers all eventualities just short of a rebuild, under the hood but thus far its only been ballast

Porsche had it covered for the tools for all the likely basic 'roadside' repairs.

Spares are up to you for your model, year, journey plan, annual mileage, driving style, etc.

I carry electrical components in the main outside the usual stuff. If you do a search on this you will find Andy's list of essentials. Probably the main one is the mobile phone especially when traveling abroad.

Regards
Mike

RAC Card
Mobile
Small tool box (bit bigger than a shoe box) with metric combo spanners + adjustable
Plug wrench
Pliers and screw drivers
Rags and thin garage gloves
Tyre pressure gauge (my spare leaks)
3/8" Socket set
Hydraulic jack (!)
Torque wrench (1/2") and 19mm socket/3" extension
Torch
3/4 size brolly
Towel

What have I used in 23 years?

Flat bladed screwdriver
Tyre pressure gauge
Jack
RAC card (x2 both because of hillclimb incidents)

With my Lola Porsche?
I take half the county.
What have I used?
About 3/4 of the county.

Ah that sounds a bit like my experience...think I'll put together a simple roll with a 3/8 drive metric set, including plug spanners, combo spanners 6-19mm, flat and posi, pliers, torch, cloth and gloves. I'll carry oil , 6 plugs, spare lamps, fuses and some wire , duct tape and zip ties.

But Keith, where's the challenge in that...not to mention the chance of an "I fixed it with a paperclip, some sticky backed plastic and a pair of Vals old knickers" story at the pub.
